Do you work on automatic pedestrian doors? If so, you will, at some point, be asked to show a CSCS card that proves this. This is because you now need to show that the job you are carrying out on site is what is written on your card.
No longer will any CSCS card do.
And that is something the Automatic Door Installation Association have worked alongside CSCS to develop and provide with the BS EN16005 (accredited by City & Guilds).
How do I get the ADIA CSCS card?
The ADIA have developed and pushed training to ensure that engineers with over one years’ worth of experience can demonstrate their skills in real life situations on automatic pedestrian doors.
Our training includes self-study, theory and practical assessments which includes service, repair and installation (on real automatic doors) of the BS EN16005 and BS 7036-0, all of which has been approved by both City & Guilds and CSCS. This is all assessed thoroughly by our qualified, experienced trainer.
It has been implied that the ADIA CSCS card is obtained simply by doing an online test with no means of proving that the engineer can demonstrate their skills. However, this is simply not true. Our training and practical assessments DO cover installation and repair (as well as servicing, maintaining, commissioning and surveying) on automatic doors for unsupervised workers. We also have a CSCS scheme for less experienced workers which you can see below.
Here is a step by step to the training and assessment process.
What if I have little experience?
Should you have been working on automatic doors for less than a year, you can obtain a trainee card.
This card allows learners to go on-site supervised by a qualified technician. This card will be valid for 1 year and is not renewable.
Trainees will need to do the health and safety test before the card is issued and complete the BS EN16005 within the 12 months’ period.
All BS EN16005 courses will include the health and safety test and MUST be completed.

Once engineers have completed all stages of the training and assessments including a Health & Safety test, they will receive a City & Guilds accreditation, CSCS card, Health and Safety certificate, BS EN16005 certificate and be listed on our DoorSafe Register as a trained engineer.
Why would I want an ADIA CSCS card?
We are an alternative scheme to the NVQ but are just as valid. Our BS EN16005 covers automatic pedestrian doors only which is perfect for those focusing on that area of the industry only.
However, if you require an NVQ for industrial or garage doors etc., you can contact an outside assessor to discuss this.
