Energy Saving Petflap from Manufacturers of the Ecoflap letter box draught excluder

Cat flaps have tended to be viewed as a necessary evil for cat owners, worth it to avoid getting up and and down constantly to let the cat in, out, in and out again, but draughty, prone to falling apart and definitely not very pretty.

The Petflap is set to change all that. Developed by Ecoflaps, the family business that manufactures the Ecoflap letter box draught excluder (and has a host of other good ideas up its sleeve), the Petflap is a robust draughtproof pet door with a gentle, quiet closing action and the kind of good looks that enhance your door.

The Petflap works on the same principle as the Ecoflap: by always presenting a fractionally larger surface area to draughts coming from any direction the flap is blown more firmly against its frame instead of banging open and shut and letting in draughts.

It's made from two layers of off-white ABS with perspex sandwiched in the middle, providing a degree of insulation against the cold while allowing a cat or small dog a good view of outside.

Despite its snug closing action it takes very little effort to open, making it ideal for very young or very old pets, and as it doesn't rely on a spring to close it won't trap tails or paws

As well as its innovative design principles, the Petflap looks nothing like the average cat flap. It's circular for easy fitting into glass, with an offset outline. It comes with trunking designed to fit a 5cm thick door, but extended trunking to go through a wall can be fitted during manufacture.

The Petflap is easy to fit - just a lick of silicone sealant round the flange and press it into place. It can be sprayed or covered in film, and fitted into wood, glass or brick.

Petflaps are made in the UK in small batches and retail at £69 inc VAT. You can buy one for your pet here.
