Opening doors for GEZE UK throughout Scotland

GEZE UK has strengthened its Automatic Door Systems team with the recent appointment of John Clark, who joins the renowned manufacturer of door and window systems as area sales manager, covering Scotland.

Supporting GEZE UK’s planned growth north of the border, John will focus on developing first-class customer relationships, analysing and proposing technical solutions from the company’s extensive automatic door range and providing first-level contact for incoming enquiries.

With a strong track record in automatic door sales, including experience working for Gilgen Door Systems, DSS Automatic Doors and Record UK, John joins GEZE UK's team in Scotland at a pivotal time of change.

He believes that a strong product portfolio - including what he describes as the “favourite choice of architects, the aesthetically pleasing 70mm Slimdrive automatic operator” - gives GEZE “a major edge over competitors.” Furthermore, the introduction of new product lines, together with ongoing investment in the business, make this an exciting time to join the company.

GEZE UK’s Scottish office in Cambuslang has over the past eighteen months appointed a new General Manager, Project Estimator and Area Sales Manager for Specification/Ironmongery. Whilst John is keen to forge relationships with both current customers and new contacts, he equally looks forward to working with and developing close bonds with his GEZE UK colleagues.

In his own words, he hopes to: “strengthen existing relationships and nurture new company friendships to form longstanding reciprocal business opportunities.”

Said Andy Howland, Sales and Marketing Director for GEZE UK:
“We are delighted to have John join the team. He has vast experience in the sector and will be a great asset to the company. John, along with the new additions to the team brings significant industry and technical experience which I’m sure will complement the existing services and customer care afforded to our current and future customers by our Cambuslang team.”

For more information about GEZE UK’s comprehensive range of automatic and manual door closers call 01543 443000 or visit www.geze.co.uk.

Survey reveals that many are leaving it too late to secure their homes

Tradespeople believe customers need
 to improve home security

With the night’s drawing in and the clocks having gone back, National Home Security Month comes at the perfect time to remind the public of the importance of home security.

A recent survey of nearly 600 tradespeople found that 85% said their customers only asked them to fit security products following a break-in to their property.

The survey, carried out by leading online supplier, IronmongeryDirect, also revealed that only one in three tradespeople feel ‘very confident’ when advising customers on better ways to secure their home. In addition, only 14% said they felt confident advising customers on smart security products.

Research by the National Home Security Month[1] campaign shows that a home is five times more likely to be burgled if no security measures are in place against those with two or three measures taken.

The top three concerns among tradespeople’s customers, as revealed in the IronmongeryDirect survey, were poor window security, poor door security and a lack of alarm systems.

When the Office of National Statistics (ONS) released its latest crime statistics earlier this year, it revealed that 1 in every 50 homes in England and Wales were burgled in the previous 12-month period.

An additional online poll in support of National Home Security Month found that 71% of respondents felt their home wasn’t secure enough.

Wayne Lysaght-Mason, Managing Director at IronmongeryDirect, said:
“Certain parts of a property are more vulnerable to a break-in than others, with doors and windows obviously being the most susceptible, while dark areas outside provide the ideal cover for intruders.
“To address these vulnerabilities, there is a wide range of products available to help keep a building safe and secure – from a basic lock to sophisticated alarm systems. Increasingly, homeowners are also switching to smart technology products providing remote monitoring to secure their property.”

For any advice and support on the best products to enhance the security of a property, contact our helpdesk on 0800 168 28 28 or visit IronmongeryDirect.com.

Door-Stop introduces three New Designs to its Portfolio

The UK’s favourite composite door manufacturer, Door-Stop International, has expanded its offering with three new designs, providing its customers with even more choice when creating a bespoke front door.

The new options consist of a long cassette door, with a top-to-bottom window; a curved door, where the windows are placed in a vertical arc; and finally, a design that has one central windowpane as the key feature.

Available in a wide range of colours and bespoke detailing, the new doors will allow customers to create completely unique designs. For example, the long cassette door, which is expected to be an extremely popular option, can be glazed in the centre, to the left or to the right.

It also comes with six glazing options to choose from, including a design called Matrix, which is manufactured with a steel pattern running throughout the pane of the glass. What’s more, this door is also available in Door-Stop’s Solid Core range.

Patrick Dean, Head of Sales and Marketing at Door-Stop International said:
“We’re really excited about introducing the new designs to our customers – particularly our curved door, as this has the potential to really bring the “wow factor” to a home. The distinctive design will definitely suit those who aren’t afraid to stand out from the crowd or break with tradition, adding an ultra-modern twist to a property.
“The glass is fitted to create a modern, organic shape that is available in eight glass designs and 17 patterns. One major advantage of this design is that it’s available across all of our ranges and is compatible with our standard, including the new Sweet collection, or contemporary hardware suites.
“As we pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service, all of the new door designs will come with our three-day delivery guarantee and/or a secure guarantee, which means that if the door is broken into, we will provide a new one free of charge along with a cheque for £1000, to soften the blow.”

Door-stop prides itself on providing genuine door-stop doors, which are branded with its mark of quality. There are many benefits to owning and supplying a genuine door-stop door: they are weather-proof, police approved, energy efficient and come with a secure guarantee.

A collection of seven very special cars will be offered for sale by Silverstone Auctions from the highly exclusive personal garage of Jamiroquai front man, Jay Kay, at the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale on 10th and 11th November.

Leading the Jay Kay Collection is an incredible 2016 McLaren 675 LT, estimated at £230,000 to £280,000. One of only 500 cars built, the McLaren features over £50,000 worth of optional extras courtesy of McLaren Special Vehicle Operations (MSO) and is finished in a tasteful shade of Chicane Grey with a grey and orange interior.

“These cars from the Jay Kay collection offer something very special in terms of variety, rarity and quality,” says Harry Whale, classic car specialist at Silverstone Auctions.
“These carefully selected cars from Jay Kay’s collection offer everything from classic American Muscle to Swedish homologation specials. Each car has a significant selling point that makes them very interesting, be it low mileage, rarity or a desirable selection of options fitted.
“We’re delighted to have been entrusted with the sale of this collection of cars. It presents a fantastic opportunity for bidders at our NEC Classic Motor Show Sale”.

Also on offer in the Jay Kay Collection is a rare 1996 BMW 850 CSI Manual with only 12,777 recorded miles. Estimated at £80,000 to £100,000, it’s powered by a 5.5 litre V12 engine delivering 380bhp and 402 lb/ft of torque. Finished in the aptly named Cosmos Black with a black leather interior, it is one of only 138 UK supplied cars.

A 2015 Porsche 911 (991) Targa 4S, finished in Night Blue Metallic with a black leather interior which has covered just 11,600 miles will also be a part of the sale. Estimated at £75,000 to £85,000, it has been fitted with numerous options including a Bose Surround sound system, Sport Chrono package, sports exhaust system, reversing camera and a tracking system.

Another BMW on offer is a rare 1989 M3 E30 Johnny Cecotto Ltd Edition, estimated at £70,000 to £85,000. Built to celebrate Johnny Cecotto’s 1988 European Touring Car Championship victory, the M3 is finished in Nogaro Silver with a black leather interior with red and blue coloured inserts. It has covered just 18,000 miles and is one of only 505 Limited Editions built.

Perfect for music and film fans alike is a 1967 Ford Mustang 390GT Fastback ‘Bullitt’ estimated at £58,000 to £68,000. Finished in the movie correct Highland Green Metallic with a blacked out grill and Torque Thrust wheels, the Mustang is powered by a professionally built 390ci (6.4 litre) V8 engine.
“Our team has a great deal of experience auctioning celebrity cars. All these cars are special and hard to find in their own right, so when you add the celebrity provenance they really do stand out in the market place,” concludes Harry.

A classic Mercedes on offer in the collection is estimated at £30,000 to £35,000. The 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300SL (R107) on offer is delightfully finished in Thistle Green Metallic with a matching interior and factory hardtop. Having covered just 54,000 miles, the car offers good maintenance history and according to Jay Kay drives smoothly and extremely well.

The final car of the collection is a 1996 Volvo 850R Sport-Wagon, estimated at £15,000 to £18,000. The car was originally supplied to Japan but was imported to the UK in 2017. Finished in Dark Olive Pearl with a Charcoal and Amaretta interior, the car has covered just 41,000 miles and presents an exciting opportunity to purchase one of the rarer homologation specials out there today.

Hörmann supports local football team through sponsorship deal

In an ongoing commitment to work with the local community, leading door manufacturer, Hörmann, is pleased to announce its latest sponsorship deal with Bardon Hill Football Club.

Based at the Bardon Hill Sports Ground in Coalville, the club accommodate for teams of all sizes and ages. The sponsorship deal with Hörmann will run throughout the whole season and supports the Bardon Hill Juniors Under 11’s Falcons team. The team play in the Leicestershire Foxes Sunday League and after four games this season, currently remain unbeaten.

The support from Hörmann has already helped to secure the Falcons with a brand new football kit. Matthew Irons has been coaching the juniors at Bardon Hill FC for a number of years. He commented:
“As a self-funded grassroots club, it’s hard to get companies to commit to supporting us each year and our volunteers all work hard to try and make this happen.  I approached Hörmann as I know they have sponsored other clubs in the area and I was delighted to hear that they could help us too. The kits look fantastic and we are all very appreciative of the kind support.”

David O’Mara, marketing manager at Hörmann, commented:
“Supporting local businesses and clubs in our community is most important to us here at Hörmann. When Bardon Hill FC approached us to ask for our help, we were more than happy to provide the juniors with their brand new kits. We’d like to wish the team the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
Bardon Hill Football Club is just one of many organisations supported by Hörmann. Hörmann takes part in several sporting events each year to raise money for a range of charities and good causes. To find out more visit, www.hormann.co.uk.

Avocet Turns The Spotlight On Dark Nights Home Security

Avocet Hardware, which produces one of the most secure Euro cylinder locks on the market, has launched a social media campaign aimed at encouraging homeowners to #StayHomeSecure following the end of British Summer Time (BST) this Sunday and the onset of the dark nights.

Launched on October 22nd, 2018, the Brighouse company’s six-week campaign has been developed in response to a spike in burglaries over the winter months – a time that sees burglary rates rise an astonishing 25 per cent.

Research has also shown that Halloween and Bonfire Night are statistically the worst night of the year for burglaries.

Derrick Purvis, marketing manager of Avocet Hardware said:
“It’s become a horrible, but sadly accepted fact that the only people who look forward to the clocks going backs are the burglars, who gleefully get back to work with the kind of enthusiasm the rest of us normally reserve for the long, light nights of Spring and Summer.”
“There are though a few simple things homeowners can do to protect their properties against unwanted visitors during the dark nights, and our #StayHomeSecure campaign will spell these out, while also giving everyone who follows it the chance to have a bit of fun and plenty of chances to win some great prizes – including, exclusively commissioned campaign artwork.”

The artwork up for grabs features Ollie – a guard dog forced into early retirement – and his former nemesis, Kat – an out-of-work cat burglar.

Both have ended up on the scrap heap following Ollie’s owners’ decision to install Avocet’s snap secure ABS locks on their home. The two will be spending the six weeks of the campaign trying out a variety of new hobbies in order to fill their now jobless days.
“Ollie was a great hit during our summer campaign, and up and coming cartoonist, Robert Leach has once again excelled himself with his work for #StayHomeSecure. Those who get their hands on his exclusive artwork really will be in luck.”
For further information and updates on #StayHomeSecure #beABSsecure and to be in with a chance to win a home security upgrade, follow @avocetabs on Twitter or join its Facebook page facebook.com/abs.secure.

More information about ABS locks can be found at www.avocet-hardware.co.uk . Alternatively call 01484 711 700.

Safety first for Lincolnshire care home

As part of a programme of improvements for its care homes across the country, a prestigious residential care home provider used HOPPE (UK) products to ensure its property in Tallington, Lincolnshire was up to standard.

Originally a stone rectory, the building’s conversion to a care home followed by three decades of alterations had taken away the building’s historic charm. Country Court Care enlisted the help of MV Construction to refurbish the existing property and construct a new building on-site.

“Regulations are changing so a lot of existing care homes have fallen behind the standards expected by residents,” said Roger Vernon, contract manager at MV Construction. “Country Court Care caters for private and local authority residents and builds to a very high standard. The safety and well-being of the residents is paramount so updating the care home is more than just the aesthetics.”

The project was split into three phases. Phase one began in June 2016 and involved the construction of the new building to house 30 residents. This was completed in September 2017.

A meeting with Peter Edwards, sales manager for Middleton Hardware, led to the majority of door hardware in the care home being supplied by HOPPE (UK).

Peter said:
“Making sure you meet the recommendations outlined in the Equality Act and all fire regulations are the two most important things when it comes to picking hardware for care homes. They need door hardware that is easy for residents to operate but still looks nice. With this in mind, we knew HOPPE (UK) products would do everything we wanted.”

Peter specified the HOPPE AR361/60 Paris handle in stainless steel. These handles have been fire tested alongside the mortice night latches so are suitable for use on fire doors and also meet the recommendations of BS 8300 so can be operated easily by hand or elbow.

For the residents’ bedroom doors, Peter advised the use of AR915 apartment sash locks. The doors can be locked from the inside but residents can get out quickly and easily by simply pressing down on the lever handle from the inside. A key is required to get in from the outside, giving residents privacy while keeping them safe.

The AR915 has also been included in a successful fire test to BS EN1634 Part 1 so it is suitable for use on 30 and 60 minute timber fire doors and 240 minute steel doors. In addition to the standard CE marking, the AR915 is CERTIFIRE approved. It also meets the dimensional recommendations of BS8300 and Approved Document M for locks.

The door hardware in care homes plays a key role in safety and security. It’s important that certain areas of a care home, such as drugs cabinets, can only be accessed by authorised staff. A master key system was installed to provide staff with a convenient solution that helps to enhance security at all times.

Roger is planning to use HOPPE products for other care home projects across the UK.
“We would definitely work with HOPPE (UK) products again, they ticked all the boxes. We’re actually using the exact same specification on another care home we’re working on in Nottingham,” said Roger.
Phase two is currently underway and is focussing on the renovation the existing building. Once all of the works are complete the care home will be able to house 62 residents.

Door closers retain aesthetics of luxury apartments

Powermatic concealed door closers have been used to help retain the Victorian heritage and high-end aesthetics of apartments in six, Grade II listed buildings overlooking a garden square in London’s fashionable Notting Hill.

The properties were at the point of being placed on the ‘endangered buildings’ list when they were acquired by Alchemi, who set about the task of restoring the 5-storey properties to their former glory by working closely with English Heritage.

In collaboration with interior designers, Studio L and architects, TateHindle, Alchemi has created an exclusive, boutique development which includes six luxury apartments with stunning interiors, sympathetic to the buildings’ Victorian heritage and blending traditional style with modern sophistication.

Furnishings and fittings were carefully selected after researching the history of the buildings and the interior style of the Victorian period. The objective being to retain as many original features as possible whilst creating a contemporary feel.

Samuel Heath’s jamb-mounted, controlled, concealed door closer, Powermatic has been used on the main entrance doors to the apartments to ensure that the high-spec, luxurious feel and appearance are not spoiled by unsightly mechanical arms and control boxes. The door closers have the added advantage of being able to accommodate restricted door clearances and 90-degree reveals.

The Bloomsbury Institute upgrades its access control capabilities with ASSA CLIQ® Remote

One of the UK’s top business and management schools, the Bloomsbury Institute, has upgraded its access control capabilities to the award-winning ASSA CLIQ® Remote wireless locking technology from ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions.

Based in central London and formerly the London School of Business and Management, the Bloomsbury Institute delivers full-time undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, accounting, finance and law, which are awarded by the University of Northampton.

The Bloomsbury Institute has to contend with a high turnover of students each academic year, as well as any changes to staff. The sheer number of people using the Institute’s buildings meant that its existing mechanical master key system was simply no longer feasible, unable to provide adequate protection for areas that might hold sensitive information, such as exam scripts.

As a result, the Bloomsbury Institute needed a flexible access control system that would be easy to maintain, granting secure access to individuals as and when needed, while delivering greater key control too.

The answer was ASSA CLIQ® Remote, which has been installed throughout the Bloomsbury’s Institute’s 7 Bedford Square teaching site, and selected areas within the institute’s 99 Gower Street building. Providing an easy-to-use electromechanical locking system, the ASSA CLIQ® Remote solution uses high-end micro-electronics and programmable keys and cylinders to offer flexible control over access rights.

The Bloomsbury Institute can now programme and update each key remotely, removing or granting access privileges for the key holder in real time. This allows only those with the necessary authority to obtain access to private areas without inconveniencing others, and removes the security risks associated with lost or stolen keys.

ASSA CLIQ® Remote also provides a full audit trail for assured peace of mind, and has the functionality to create time-defined user keys, only allowing access to an individual for a specified period of time. This feature is proving invaluable to the Bloomsbury institute, which plans to eventually convert all cylinders at its 99 Gower Street site to    ASSA CLIQ® Remote, as part of its expansion plans.

Stephane Middleton, Estates & Facilities Manager at the Bloomsbury Institute, explains:
“We are committed to the security and safety of student data, which led us to consider upgrading the mechanical master key system that we previously had in place. Using ASSA CLIQ® Remote could not be easier. It is saving us countless hours of key cutting and changing cylinders, while significantly improving our key control.
“When a new employee joins the team, the ASSA CLIQ® Remote key is the only one they will need, irrespective of how many rooms they may occupy or how many areas they may need access to during their time with us. In addition, the system provides robust security; if a key is lost or stolen, we can cancel it, safe in the knowledge that we are completely secure.
“The service from ASSA ABLOY has been outstanding. The company really made the effort to understand our business and its requirements. During the implementation phase, ASSA ABLOY provided comprehensive training on how to use the system to all staff that have administration rights, while working with our IT team to ensure the systems’ software is uploaded onto their machines.
“The best part of the service has been having a dedicated contact that has been onboard since the start, providing us with new updates, support and guidance. This part of the service is proving to be of great value, filling us with confidence to continue using ASSA ABLOY products in the future. Indeed, as we look to expand the sites we operate in, we envisage that all the cylinders will one day be converted to this system.”

Simon Wilson, National Sales Manager for ASSA CLIQ® Remote at ASSA ABLOY, said:
“Our ASSA CLIQ® Remote solution combines all the benefits of access control with a high-security physical master key system. The system was easily retrofitted, meaning there was very little disruption to the university during the installation process, and the institute no longer has to worry about the security concerns that come with a misplaced key.
“The fact that ASSA CLIQ® Remote also offers the capability to log and provide a record of who has entered and exited an area is helping to ensure rooms that hold confidential papers or sensitive information remain secure.
“We’re delighted to help the Bloomsbury Institute revolutionise its key management systems, delivering greater security, flexibility and key control.”

Crawley Revved up for its Annual Trip down Memory Lane

As tradition dictates, Crawley High Street will once again be travelling back in time as the time-honoured halfway halt on next month’s running of the world famous Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox.

More than 120 years ago, all those motoring pioneers taking part in the original Emancipation Run in 1896 passed through Crawley’s welcoming town centre as they head south on what then was a very rudimentary A23.

Marking that milestone, on Sunday 4 November more than 400 veteran cars dating back to the dawn of motoring will once again descend on the Sussex town’s historical High Street to take a well-earned breather on their annual pilgrimage from the capital’s Hyde Park to Madeira Drive on the Sussex seaside.

Once again, the visitor experience in Crawley is supported by the UK’s second largest airport and the most efficient single-runway airport in the world.

With the intrepid crews and their amazing pre-1905 horseless carriages enjoying a short ‘flying visit’ respite before tackling the tricky and steep hills of the South Downs, the notably wide expanses of central Crawley always provide the perfect free-to-view opportunity for thousands of enthusiastic visitors to see all these extraordinary Victorian and Edwardian vehicles up close.

Official partner Gatwick Airport returns with support for participants and spectators alike. The former will be provided with travel sweets and seat cushions to aid their journey down to Brighton, while the latter will be given postcards to exchange for a hot drink in the local La Rusta café located close by in The Martlets.

Gatwick will also be parking a genuine veteran car on the High Street, thus providing visitors with the chance to get behind the wheel for the perfect photo opportunity.

Gatwick Airport’s Community Engagement Manager, Melanie Wrightson, said:
“We are proud to be involved in the Veteran Car Run for the third year in a row, in what is sure to be an exciting event for everyone participating and spectating.
“Our sponsorship of the event forms part of Gatwick’s wider community engagement programme as we look forward to meeting with the local community in Crawley.”

Lined with charismatic buildings from bygone eras, Crawley High Street – now by-passed by through traffic – also marks an important stage on the Run as it’s the start of the highly-popular Regularity Time Trial, the only competitive element of the event. Finishing 13 miles away in Burgess Hill, the Regularity Time Trail requires drivers to get as close to a chosen average speed as possible.

The first cars are due to arrive in the High Street at around 8.15am with the last car leaving around 1.45pm. Full information can be found on the official website: www.veterancarrun.com

As in recent years, the Bonhams Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox provides a fitting grand finale to the Royal Automobile Club’s busy London Motor Week – during which the Club presents an array of functions and events, a highlight being the free-to-view Illinois Route 66 Regent Street Motor Show, this year held on Saturday 3rd November.

The renowned auctioneer Bonhams will host a special Veteran Car Run sale on the preceding Friday afternoon with an exciting selection of veteran cars and related memorabilia coming under the hammer.

About the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox

With its unique atmosphere and camaraderie, the Bonhams Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox travelling from London to Brighton (staged specifically as a non-profit making veneration) commemorates the Emancipation Run of 14th November 1896, which celebrated the Locomotives on the Highway Act. The Act raised the speed limit for ‘light locomotives’ from 4 to 14 mph and abolished the need for these vehicles to be preceded by a man on foot waving a red flag.

The Emancipation Run was first commemorated in 1897 with a re-enactment following the same route in 1927 and has taken place every November since, apart from the war years and 1947 when petrol was rationed. The Royal Automobile Club has managed the Run with the support of the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain since 1930.

Yale becomes first Manufacturer Certified by Element under new STS218 scheme

Yale Door and Window Solutions has become the first manufacturer to be certified by Element Materials Technology (Element) under the new STS218 letterplate security scheme.

The scheme, which tests letterplates for burglar resistance, anti-corrosion and durability, is a recent addition to the testing offering at Element’s supersite in Wednesbury, UK. It certifies to TS008 standard, which combats fishing for car keys, manipulation of the thumbturn and stealing of mail, as well as anti-arson.

A TS008 compliant letterplate is a requirement of PAS24:2016, Secured by Design and Approved Document Q of the Building Regulations for all new build dwellings.

In addition, Yale also appointed Element to carry out STS217 Certisecure security handle certification. This scheme uses a manual attack test to certify the security of handles against cylinder snapping – one of the quickest and most widely used methods of breaking into doors.

The successful testing of both will certify Yale’s letterplates and handles as secure products, giving customers a guarantee that they are of the highest quality and meet stringent safety standards.

Steve Hall, Business Development Manager for Yale Door and Window Solutions, said:
“At Yale, we pride ourselves on exceeding standards and adding true value to our products. We also take testing and certification incredibly seriously; the products we manufacture have to be of the upmost quality and we need to work with well-respected test houses such as Element in order to qualify this.
“PAS 24:2016 is now mandatory for all new developments and refurbishment projects that wish to meet Secured by Design (SBD), and this includes the requirement for all letterplates installed on doorsets to be TS008 approved. As a result, many customers will be looking to us for products that adhere to these industry standards.
“We are thrilled that our letterplates and handles have been STS218 and STS217 certified after months of thorough testing, and we believe our products now present customers with a fully-rounded solution.”

Rob Veitch, EVP Fire & Building Products, comments:
“Element is leading the way in door and window testing in the UK and has some of the foremost expertise in the industry. Indeed, our Wednesbury laboratory is currently the only site in the UK that offers STS218 certification with UKAS approval.
“Now that Yale has become certified under both the STS218 and STS217 schemes, buyers can have confidence that its letterplates and handles have undergone a rigorous testing process, are of the best functionality and, most importantly, are burglar resistant.”

Element provides security testing of external doors and windows, to PAS24 and European burglary resistance standards. The expert teams provide assessments of security performance based on existing test evidence and agreed principles.

Hörmann UK crew joins forces with Winvic for Charity Yacht Racing Challenge

Last month Tom Langley, Paul Eadie, and Paul Harrison from Hörmann UK jumped aboard a yacht for the first time as part of Winvic’s Charity Yacht Racing Challenge.

Hörmann UK donated £900 to partake in the event, which went towards Winvic’s selected charity, The Bee Hive, a Northampton-based community group that provides a post 16 vocational setting for young people with Special Educational Needs.

With over 50 suppliers taking part, the Hörmann UK team were amongst the 200 people that took part in the challenge, which aimed to celebrate the working relationships within Winvic’s supply chain while raising money for their latest project, Horti-Hub @ The Bee Hive.

Tom Langley, projects director at Hörmann UK said:
“The Charity Yacht Racing Challenge was a fantastic experience, but it was a lot harder and scarier than it looked! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t kind and we all got very wet, but that certainly didn’t dampen our spirits. When you know you’re raising money for a great cause like The Bee Hive project it really gives you the extra motivation you need when you’re flagging.”

David O’Mara, marketing manager at Hörmann, commented:
“Everyone at Hörmann UK is really proud of Tom, Paul and Paul, for taking part in Winvic’s Charity Yacht Racing Challenge. Despite having not sailed before they all did a brilliant job, and most importantly helped raise money for such an important cause. We’ve been working with Winvic for many years now, so it was great to have the opportunity to bond with the Winvic team.”

The Horti-Hub @ The Bee Hive project will offer a safe and well-structured environment that combines education, vocational-learning and work-placed learning. Details on the charity’s work are available at http://www.thebeehive-nsac.org.uk.

Hörmann takes part in several sporting events each year to raise money for a range of charities and good causes. To find out more visit, www.hormann.co.uk/news
