Cocktail Hour continues amid Lockdown, with a SeceuroShield 150 Aluminium Roller Shutter

The closure of pubs, bars and restaurants throughout both regional and national lockdowns in 2020 has resulted in the Great British public becoming increasingly creative with the space in their gardens and homes.

From gyms in the garage, to offices under the stairs or bars in the garden there are lots of ways homeowners have been turning their homes into multi-functional spaces.

In this case-study SWS UK’s distributor Freelance Entry Solutions Ltd were able to assist their customer in completing a stylish, bespoke bar in the garden of their Salisbury home.

The Customer:

Despite the national closure of pubs and bars, this homeowner was still enjoying their favourite tipple with family and (when restrictions allowed) friends, thanks to the constructions of this sophisticated bar, named Plumm’s Place in their own back garden! The only thing missing was a method of closing off the bar at night-time or when not in use.

The Requirements:

With the bar already built, the customer was looking for a solution that would shield the inside from the varied British weather as well as keeping out curious animals from neighbouring properties. Whilst not a primary concern, the bar housed a commercial-sized drinks chiller and fully stocked optics, so security was also a consideration when choosing a product.

The Solution:

Considering all the customer’s requirements, Freelance Entry Solutions advised their customer that SWS UK’s SeceuroShield 150/T aluminium roller shutter, with its lightweight profile and extensive choice of finishes would be an ideal solution.

The customer opted for effortless, electric operation on both shutters with Freelance installing separate switches, enabling independent control of each unit. The chosen anthracite finish perfectly matched existing fixtures within the bar and garden, and provided the stylish, unobtrusive look the homeowner was keen to achieve.

The Outcome:

Following the straightforward installation by Freelance Entry Solutions, the homeowner expressed their delight with the finished result and are pleased to be the proud owners of a garden bar that will remain dry and secure no matter the season.

The SeceuroShield 150/T:

SeceuroShield 150/T is a lightweight aluminium shutter with a CFC-free foam-filled slat, available in a choice of 20 attractive colour finishes. Boasting effective heat and sound insulation, SeceuroShield 150/T is also ideal for providing flexible shading, light-control and blackout. Available either with manual or electric operation it can span widths of up to 3800mm.

Vauxhall Heritage Collection on the Move

Vauxhall’s famous Heritage Collection and Archive are set to move from the company’s Griffin House, Luton site next month, as plans develop to create an all-new public-facing Heritage Centre in the future.

The imminent sale of Vauxhall’s former Luton site means that the Collection will find a new interim home at the company’s Ellesmere Port factory, where a converted 8,000 square-metre building has been set aside for the 60-strong Collection, which represents every decade of Vauxhall’s 117-year history.

Ellesmere Port, home of Vauxhall’s compact car production for the last 56 years and current manufacturing site for the Astra, ‘…is proud to be the Collection’s temporary custodian,’ said Plant Director, Mark Noble.

‘We’re all looking forward to the arrival of these Heritage vehicles, some of which have been manufactured here over the last six decades. We’ve made sure that the area which will house the cars is heated, dry and secure, in keeping with the way the Collection has been stored in its former Luton home for the last 30 years.’

Once relocation has taken place, the Collection will be maintained on site by local classic vehicle specialist, Manor Park Classics, to make sure that all vehicles are preserved to a high standard while in storage.

However, around 20 vehicles – a third of the Collection – will still have visibility outside of Ellesmere Port. Currently, 13 Vauxhalls are on display at Stockwood Discovery Centre in Luton as part of the ‘Vauxhall – Made in Luton’ exhibition, which runs until the end of March, 2021.

A joint venture between Vauxhall and The Culture Trust Luton, the exhibits include the world’s oldest Prince Henry sports car, the rakish 1966 XVR concept car and a beautifully restored 1970 Viva GT.

In addition, Manor Park Classics will provide exposure for six cars at their Runcorn HQ in a bespoke Vauxhall Heritage area, complete with ephemera taken from the old Heritage Centre.

Manor Park’s Managing Director, Roger Nowell said:
‘We’re excited to play a part in keeping Vauxhall Heritage’s flame burning while it develops its plan for a future permanent base.’
‘Manor Park’s experience and enthusiasm for a wide breadth of classic cars, like those in Vauxhall’s collection, is immense and we know that the carefully selected models which we’ll have on display will be a great attraction to people visiting our offices.’

Included in Manor Park’s exhibition will be a 1904 6hp Light Car that has entered almost every London to Brighton Veteran Car Run since 1927, a 1926 OE-Type 30-98, owned by Vauxhall for the last 72 years, an original Lotus Carlton press car and – fittingly, given MPC’s proximity to Ellesmere Port – a 1989 Astra GTE Mk.2.

Vauxhall’s Heritage Centre also houses an extensive archive, going back as far as the late-nineteenth century, when the Vauxhall Iron Works – as the company was then known – was formed, before starting motor car production in 1903. Like the Collection, the Archive will find a new home at another existing Vauxhall site: the historic and prominent Toddington Warehouse, on the outskirts of Luton.

Andrew Duerden, Vauxhall’s long-time Archivist, was pleased that the move would bring more order to the enormous collection of images, records and ephemera gathered over the years.
‘Our upcoming move has given me the opportunity to re-organise the Archive and prioritise the elements which add depth, colour and interest to our extensive history.
‘Digitisation of our image library is ongoing, and provides a valuable asset to media in search of historical context to Vauxhall stories.
‘We also have many unseen design studies from the Sixties and Seventies that, quite frankly, take your breath away. I will also be taking on responsibility for Vauxhall’s popular Dating Certificate service, providing build verification for owners of classic Vauxhalls.’

Plans for the Collection’s future permanent home are underway, with the interim storage at Ellesmere Port providing a much welcome shorter-term solution. ‘Vauxhall is fully committed to preserving its Heritage Collection and Archive,’ said Simon Hucknall, Vauxhall’s Head of PR and curator of the Collection.
‘While the move from Griffin House to Ellesmere will mean a temporary halt to the Collection’s working status, our partners at The Culture Trust Luton and Manor Park Classics have generously supported future exposure of a third of our vehicles.
‘We are currently developing plans for a new, purpose-built base for the Collection, which will allow it to be public-facing, while also bringing back its working status. This is by no means the work of a minute, but we hope to be able to share more details about a new Vauxhall Heritage Centre early next year.’

For details of The Culture Trust Luton’s ‘Vauxhall – Made in Luton’ exhibition, please go to www.culturetrust.com/vauxhall (due to the current lockdown restrictions, the exhibition is closed, but should re-open in early December).

Aluroll Investing in Success Following Record-Breaking Sales

Aluroll forecast a 25% increase in sales compared with 2019, despite the 5 week COVID shutdown over the March/April period and subsequent staged return to work in May.

Manufacturing output has evolved to meet the demands of record-breaking daily door orders in the months since the initial lockdown and there seems little sign of a slowdown any time soon.

The company has exciting plans in the pipeline to help facilitate this growth and further enhance their industry-leading products and service levels. Investments are being made into the production facility, supported by expansion of the delivery fleet and manufacturing system.

Increasing Output Through New Machinery

A new ACRA ATX 22000 machine will automate the assembly of Secureroll roller garage door slats, doubling Aluroll’s maximum output to 100 doors per day. Improving production efficiencies in this way will enable the company to meet the increase in demand, while maintaining the short lead times that Aluroll customers are accustomed to.

A further investment is being made into a multi-drill machine. This will enable Aluroll to offer pre-drilled guide channels, a service often requested by installers due to the time it saves on site.

Adjustments to the factory layout are planned to accommodate the new machines and further enhance manufacturing efficiencies.

New Truck Supports Additional Delivery Routes

Aluroll’s delivery fleet has increased with the addition of a new vehicle. The purchase of a new 5 metre, 3.5 tonne, Iveco curtain sider will help the logistics department meet the requirements of a growing nationwide network of Aluroll installers.

Supporting Future Growth

Reporting year-on-year exponential growth, Aluroll has risen to become the largest independent manufacturer of roller garage doors in the UK. As the company’s market share continues to increase, they have made a considerable investment into their manufacturing system through FenTrack, a custom-built cloud-based platform which has revolutionised the company’s internal processes.

From order processing through to production scheduling and delivery route planning, along with stock management and auto-generated cut sheets and technical drawings, FenTrack has, and continues to, improve efficiencies across the company. These streamlined processes have impressed existing customers and won over new business alike, whilst also helping to limit the negative impact COVID-19 could have potentially had on sales.

Aluroll and FenTrack continue to work together to ensure the system supports the company’s growth and while maintaining their reputation for exceptional products and service.

Join Aluroll’s success story. Call 0800 977 8975 to speak to the sales office about becoming a trade distributor of their roller shutters or Secureroll garage doors.

Hörmann UK Raises the Standard with their New Partnership Programme

Hörmann UK, Europe’s leading door provider, is further enhancing its commitment to providing its customers with the highest standards in quality, innovation, and aftersales service through the launch of its new and innovative Hörmann Partner Standard programme.

A first for both the industry and the Hörmann Group, the Partner Standard has been created to reward and recognise official Hörmann dealers that continuously provide customers with first class service when supplying, installing and servicing Hörmann’s diverse portfolio of products.

It has also been developed to ensure that end consumers have the confidence they are purchasing Hörmann products from an accredited Hörmann distributor and will receive the highest standards of service throughout every aspect of their purchasing journey.

There are a range of criteria that dealers are required to meet in order to achieve the Partner Standard, including positively representing the Hörmann brand at all times, predominantly stocking Hörmann products, undertaking regular training and installing end-to-end Hörmann solutions.

As a reward to dealers that continuously fulfil these requirements, they will receive an official Hörmann Partner Standard identification card, the use of the official logo and branded workwear, extended warrantees, free comprehensive training at the Hörmann Academy and, most importantly, directly generated sales leads.

For an online description of how the Hörmann Partner Standard works, visit www.hormann.co.uk .

Whilst also gaining industry recognition, dealers who achieve the Hörmann Standard will have a dedicated landing page on the new Hörmann Dealer Finder which is located on the Hörmann UK website.  The Dealer Finder has been developed to provide end consumers with an instant and easy way to search for, and contact, the local Hörmann distributors that best meet their individual requirements.

End users simply initiate a search based on their post code, together with a variety of simple options that allow them to specify the product and service they are looking for.  A list of Hörmann distributors who match their search criteria is generated, with landing pages providing the opportunity to access personalised information on each distributor, including the Hörmann products they supply and install, opening times, testimonials and photography of recent installations.  End consumers have the option to make direct contact with one or more of the distributors listed.

Wolfgang Gorner, Manager Director at Hörmann UK, said:
“Here at Hörmann UK we pride ourselves on providing the very highest standards in product innovation, quality and service and the launch of our new Hörmann Partner Standard programme is a reflection of this commitment, not only to the end-user but to our nationwide network of distributors.
“The launch of our new programme is part of our wider strategy to ensure every single Hörmann end-user receives the highest standard of service throughout every stage of their purchasing journey, making the purchase of a Hörmann product an enjoyable experience.
“The introduction of the Partner Standard has been met with a great deal of excitement and interest from our dealer network, who can see real value in the programme and are keen to get involved.
“Obviously, the launch of such an initiative always generates an initial rush of enthusiasm, but at Hörmann we have worked hard to generate a scheme that will continue to grow and develop over the coming years.
“Our ultimate objective in launching the programme is that we stay ahead of the field in providing real, tangible support to our Partners and together drive our business’s forward.”

So far, over 40 landing pages have been created, with many more to come over the coming months, and sales leads are already being generated.

Lee Nicholson, Director at Freelance Entry Systems Salisbury comments:
“It’s fantastic to have a manufacturer finally willing to recognise and actively promote the most reputable dealers of Hörmann products.
“When the idea was first mentioned we were sceptical, but as the concept has evolved and Hörmann have put a lot of thought into a stringent and structured method of selection and continued monitoring, it seems the Partner Standard truly is an endorsement that holds credibility.
“It is still early days but we are already seeing the benefits of achieving the Hörmann Partner Standard and can only see this gaining more traction over time.”

Garador Launches New Garaglide Roller Garage Door

Watch the installation video at:  www.youtube.com

The engineering and product development teams at Garador have been busy over the last 18 months, developing a new competitively-priced roller door, called the GaraGlide.

With its tubular motor driven design, wired optical-sensor and comparatively low price, it’s one of the best value roller garage doors currently available on the market. Plus, the new door has been designed and packaged so that it is quick to fit and easy to transport to site.

GaraGlide Handset
The GaraGlide is electrically automated, so homeowners can open and close their door at the touch of a button.

The door itself is powered by a tubular drive motor and is supplied with two remote hand transmitters as standard, with the option of either a standard (433 MHz) or bisecur (868 MHz) hand transmitter design, to control their door with, thus giving them a basic and more advanced option to choose from.

GaraGlide Control Panel
It also has a smart new control panel, with an integrated LED light to illuminate the garage on those dark winter evenings.

The door is also supplied with an internal crank handle for emergency release, so homeowners can still open and close the door in the event of a power cut.

The door features a wired optical sensor built into the floor seal to ensure that the door curtain stops, in the event of an obstruction.

The optical sensor utilises light beam technology, whereby when the beam is broken the door will stop.

Wired Optical Sensor

Quick and Easy to Install

The new GaraGlide roller door has a number of different features that make it very quick to install:
  • Pre-assembled box cover, barrel and guide rollers.
  • High quality roller wheels to improve noise reduction.
  • Extra “fold” in the hood adds rigidity and strength making installation easier.
  • Pre-drilled guide rails to further reduce installation time.
  • 75mm guide rails for single doors and 105mm for double doors, for narrow fitting conditions.
  • Supplied in two double-wall cardboard boxes, for ease of transportation to site.

Watch the installation video at:  www.youtube.com

Neil Discombe, Managing Director at Garador says:
“The GaraGlide’s electrically automated design means the door can be conveniently opened using just a hand transmitter. The door also looks great and comes in a range of colours, so we are confident that it will appeal to a broad spectrum of customers.”

Door in closed position showing wired safety edge

The door curtain is constructed from 77mm high aluminium profiles, filled with CFC free polyurethane foam providing thermal insulation and is available in 15 standard colours, 2 timber-effect finishes and the very special Anthracite Metallic (Noir Sable 2100).

Plain, Glazed and Vented Profile Options

In addition to the plain door curtain profiles, there’s also the option to have ventilation grilles to provide further ventilation inside the garage or glazing elements to provide natural daylight inside.

A sturdy rubber seal at the bottom of the door curtain and brush seals inside the guide rails, helps to prevent drafts inside the garage and stops unwanted leaves, dust and dirt blowing into the garage.

One of the most important aspects of the new GaraGlide roller door is the ease with which it can be transported to site without the need for a forklift. The GaraGlide is exceptionally easy to transport to site, as the whole garage door fits into just two double-wall cardboard boxes.

Garador’s Managing Director, Neil Discombe, comments:
“It was important for us to create a product that can be shipped quickly and easily to customers. Hence we designed the packaging so that the whole garage door fits neatly into just two cardboard boxes.”
A further positive for the GaraGlide is that it’s really quick to install, with a pre-assembled box cover, barrel and guide rollers. The guide rails are also pre-drilled at the factory, further reducing installation time, and are supplied with plastic plugs for a professional finish.

Purchasing a roller door design that is easy to fit is an important consideration for builders and garage door fitters alike. With the GaraGlide, Garador have come up with a pre-assembled box cover system and a design which requires as little as 4 fixings either side and 4 along the top.

With 75mm guide rails for doors up to 3000mm wide, and 105mm guide rails for doors over 3000mm wide, these doors are also suited to particularly narrow fitting conditions.

Safety is a key consideration with any new door design at Garador, so to meet European Safety Standards; each GaraGlide is supplied with a solid metal box cover for the curtain when it rolls up at the top of the door opening.

The box cover, which encloses the door curtain, helps to protect the door curtain from dust, dirt and damage whilst in the open position and also prevents an individual’s fingers from becoming caught or trapped, as the curtain itself is contained.

Find out more about the new GaraGlide roller door by visiting www.garador.co.uk or calling 01935 443701.

Morgan Launches Limited-Edition 3 Wheeler P101 to Celebrate End of Model’s Production

The Morgan Motor Company is marking the end of production of one of its most well-loved models, the 3 Wheeler, with the announcement of the P101 edition.

The 3 Wheeler — which was introduced in its current form in 2011 — will cease production in 2021, once type approval on its S&S V-twin engine finishes.

P101 stands for Project 101, the internal name given to the project to revive the 3 Wheeler when development began more than a decade ago.

Limited to just 33 examples, the P101 was conceived by Morgan’s in-house Design and Engineering departments to celebrate their original project, and its resulting model success throughout its production run.

The current 3 Wheeler has been one of the company’s most popular models of all time, with more than 2,500 examples having been made since its launch in 2011. The 3 Wheeler is exported to all corners of the globe, and has received countless motoring accolades from across the industry.

This recognition, the popularity of the car, and the numerous ‘stand out’ road trips undertaken by owners confirms that the spirit of adventure and individuality is alive and well, both at Morgan and within the wider automotive industry.

Characterised by a purposeful and utilitarian aesthetic, the P101 features a range of unique components and bespoke detailing, many of which have been inspired by the prominent design features of Morgan’s three wheeled models.

A striking single-leaf tonneau cover – first seen on Morgan’s EV3 concept in 2016 – has been deployed to exaggerate the asymmetrical theme, and is intended for single occupant use.

The composite resin cover exhibits a natural translucent golden colour, not dissimilar to materials witnessed on engine shrouds for 1970s race cars. The tonneau is lightweight, streamlined, and honest in both its design and manufacture.

The Aero-disc wheels – painted to match the main body colour –– provide a further streamlined visual and define the look of the P101, making it instantly recognisable as a unique model. The low-drag Aero-disc wheels work together with low-slung Hella 9-inch spot lamps, positioned to reduce turbulence around the suspension and wishbones, whilst also giving the car a more forward-leaning aesthetic.

Adding to the asymmetry and split identity of the P101, alternated black and white ceramic coated exhausts contrast left to right of the model. Further detailed additions include torque markers on each front tyre, straight-cut exhausts, a fly screen, additional louvres, exposed rivet details, and unique P101 markings. Together, they evoke the sense of excitement felt around the company when the original prototypes were being developed.

Each 3 Wheeler P101 is available in Deep Black or Satin White Silver paint, with appropriate decals to suit. Further to this, four P101 art packs will be available for customers to choose from, each with their own unique identifiers and vivid graphics:

The Belly Tank – Referencing liveries found on belly tank racers and ‘lakesters’ that were inspirations for the 3 Wheeler initially, The Belly Tank graphic pack features a distressed effect in the vinyl.

The Dazzleship (vehicle shown in photography/video) – The Dazzleship is the boldest of the art packs. Its striking black and white design is inspired by the graphic camouflage of period military vehicles.

The Aviator – Evoking a sense of aviation spirit, The Aviator graphic pack is an extension of similarly themed graphics currently offered on the 3 Wheeler. This art pack is inspired by nose art found on RAF planes in WWII.

The Race Car – Three wheeled Morgan vehicles were competing in motorsport almost as soon as the first example was created. The Race Car graphic pack features stripes and roundels, paying homage to the liveries that adorned early Morgan race cars.

The limited-edition P101 is priced from £45,000 plus local market taxes and on-the-road costs, and all 33 production slots have already been allocated to Morgan dealerships in the UK, Europe and USA. Production of the model will begin immediately and continue alongside ‘bespoke’ 3 Wheelers during 2021.

The importance of three wheelers in Morgan’s history cannot be underestimated. From the original Runabout built by HFS Morgan in 1909, through to the latest version in production today, thousands have been built in Morgan’s factory in Malvern, Worcestershire.

Through various iterations, the original three wheelers were made until 1952, when the factory began exclusive production of four-wheeled cars until the launch of the 3 Wheeler in 2011. Details of a potential successor to the 3 Wheeler are yet to be announced, and while Morgan can confirm that “the Morgan 3 Wheeler will return”, there will be a break in production.

Ground-breaking antibacterial coating helps Codelocks products fight against COVID-19

Codelocks products are now available with Clean by Codelocks, a durable finish that cuts bacterial growth on locks and door handles by over 99.9%.

Codelocks releases Clean by Codelocks*, a photocatalytic coating that has been proven capable of eliminating the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID-19) within minutes. The clear, durable coating reduces bacterial growth on any surface it is applied to and can be applied to any lock product in the Codelocks range.

Clean by Codelocks is resistant to chemical cleaners and is designed to complement, rather than replace, existing sanitisation procedures. It works by a process called photocatalytic oxidation. The ISO certified* coating reacts with light and converts harmful bacteria and germs into a non-toxic compound, resulting in a clean and hygienic surface.

Colin Campbell, Managing Director at Codelocks said:
“Businesses need to do all they can to reduce the spread of COVID-19 – including using new technology. The new nano-tech finish, Clean by Codelocks, has been shown to reduce bacterial growth by over 99.9% and provides an additional measure of protection over sanitisation. Customers can opt for the new finish with any of Codelocks lock solutions.
“We’re expecting this coating to be popular with businesses and organisations that will benefit from an extra level of protection against Coronavirus – including education and healthcare environments, offices, shops and restaurants.”
Clean by Codelocks is available with all Codelocks lock products and should be used in conjunction with existing cleaning and sanitisation processes. Customers visiting the Codelocks website are able to opt for the new coating simply by ticking a checkbox next to the chosen product.
