Specialist softwood timber window and door manufacturer, Swift Joinery Manufacturers Limited, a long-standing Secured by Design member company, has started 2021 by reaffirming its commitment to protecting the environment by producing products only sourced from sustainable sources and recycling waste whenever it is possible to do so.
All the timber used by the company is obtained from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Sourced from top European suppliers and using engineered defect free laminated timber, Swift Joinery Manufacturers’ range of timber includes engineered Redwood, Sapele, Oak and engineered Red Grandis.
Supplying the UK marketplace with high quality, high performance window and door products, the company manufacturers 95% of its products at its workshop in Castleford, West Yorkshire, where its commitment to being eco-friendly continues by turning 90% of its shavings and timber waste into heat for its workshop. In addition, all other materials are recycled whenever appropriate.
Having control over the manufacturing process enables the company to oversee all aspects of production including bespoke design and hand-crafted product build exactly to customers’ specifications.
Stephen Greenwood, General Manager, Swift Joinery Manufacturers, declared:
“We are committed to using environmentally friendly products to contribute towards protecting our fragile environment around the world.
“All timber is sourced from forests which are members of the FSC and have properly managed forests with a continuous replanting programme. Timber is our only natural renewable product. UPVC, steel and concrete production involves the use of finite resources.
“Being eco-friendly is a major business priority for us. We want to make our company responsible for the way we treat the world in which we live.”
Stephen added: “We believe the quality of our products guarantees customer satisfaction which lasts the test of time. Our workforce is highly skilled totalling a great many years of experience. That experience is used daily to make our windows and doors, drawing on both traditional methods and modern techniques.”
Doors include double-boarded, fully-glazed and panelled and are fully factory finished in a painted or stained colour of the customer’s choice. Stable doors, which are perfect for households with young children, pets and if extra ventilation is required, and bi-fold doors, which achieve greater access between home and garden, are available on request. Windows such as standard casement, flush casement, sliding sash and mock sliding sash are all available too.
As well as being eco-friendly, the company, which has been established over 25 years, has built its reputation on its range of products offering weather resilience, energy efficiency and durability as well as safety and security.
Swift Joinery Manufacturers was one of the first companies to join Secured by Design, the official police security initiative. It renewed its membership again during December 2020. It has one door range and three window range products that have been certified to PAS 24:2016 security standards, which have been recognised by the Police Service for having achieved Police Preferred Specification. Alfie Hosker, Technical Manager, Secured by Design, said:
“This is a company that is committed to doing the right thing for its customers and making sure it plays its part in helping to protect the planet. We are delighted that Swift Joinery Manufacturers has renewed its membership with Secured by Design.”
On 11 November, 2020, the Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs announced that the UK will go further than ever before to clamp down on illegal deforestation and protect rainforests as part of world-leading new laws being introduced through the landmark Environment Bill.
One of the leading new measures is the introduction of a new law in the Environment Bill which will require greater due diligence from businesses, and make it illegal for UK businesses to use key commodities if they have not been produced in line with local laws protecting forests and other natural ecosystems.
