In 2016 SWS UK distributor Alliance Security Installations installed a supersized SeceuroDoor 75 Steel Roller Shutter in an unusual setting.
A Stockport high school had recently invested in a £20k screen that would be used to advertise upcoming events, school news and sponsorship adverts. Positioned high up in the sports hall, the screen was vulnerable to damage from sporting activities so the school was keen to come up with a solution that would protect their investment.
Expert installer Alliance Security Installations recommended SWS UK’s SeceuroDoor 75, Roller Shutter, for its robust design, but also because of the simple electric operation which meant the screen could easily be displayed or hidden when needed. Perforated slats were chosen to allow partial vision of the TV even when the shutter was closed.
6 years later, the school is now part of an academy trust with multiple sites across Manchester and Stockport. Similar, high-value screens have since been installed at a further two locations within the trust, and following the success of the first protective shutter, Alliance Security was asked to carry out similar installs to secure the latest screens.
Like the previous installation, the new shutters needed to be offset from the wall by 300mm to ensure coverage of the screen with enough clearance. To do this, Alliance Security organised the fabrication of a bespoke steel frame and specialist brackets that would support the shutter in its unconventional position.
Another challenge, but one they had experienced during the 2016 project was installing a shutter 23ft from the ground. To ensure this was done safely, specialist equipment, including an elevating work platform was used. Fortunately, the team at Alliance Security holds an IPAF license which allowed them to operate the machinery without bringing in additional contractors.
Despite the challenges of this project, the experienced team of 3 installers was able to install each SeceuroDoor 75 Shutter in just 1 day, ensuring minimal disruption for the schools and their pupils. Additionally, Alliance Security installed a further 8 shutters from the SeceuroShield aluminium range across the trust’s 3 sites.
The client was delighted with each of the SeceuroShield Shutter installations but was particularly impressed with the ingenuity of the suspended frame and SeceuroDoor Shutter used to protect their valuable screens.
