Take the Longer Way this Christmas with Detour 101: 101 of the World’s Best Road Trips

Looking for a stocking filler for the road tripper or petrolhead in your life? Then look no further than Detour 101:101 of the World’s Best Road Trips.

From tortuous mountain passes to empty desert highways, from curvaceous coast roads to scenic country drives, Detour 101 invites you to take the longer way on the world’s best road trips.

Each of these 101 journeys, curated by Nik Berg, founder of detour-roadtrips.com, has its own fascinating story that will make you want to grab your car (or bike) keys and head out on the road.

Explore car culture, flirt with danger and discover some of the most dynamic drives and stunning scenery the planet has to offer.

With guides spanning Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand and the Americas, you’ll find detailed instructions and a link to a map for every Detour so you can plan your next road trip.

Detour 101 has both accessible and extreme adventures to choose from.

Inside you’ll find the bendiest, straightest and most haunted roads in the UK alongside some of the most dangerous roads in the world.

There are trips that can be done in a matter of minutes, hours, days or even months, but what they all have in common is that they’ve been picked as much for how they will take you from start to finish as for where those points actually are.

It’s the journey that matters – the romance of the road trip itself.

Says Berg:

“For me it’s been a lifelong love affair that began in the back of my dad’s old Citroën DS Safari on a non-stop 24-hour drive to the south of France when I was seven, continued through many years of motoring journalism, and more recently led to the founding of detour-roadtrips.com – a website dedicated to road trip inspiration and information, where you’ll find hundreds more Detours, Pit Stops and stories from the road.”

Detour 101 is available now on Amazon priced at £15.99 – order now at -

About the Author

Nik Berg has been a motoring journalist for almost as long as he’s been driving, with a career that began on Auto Express magazine while he was still a teen.

Nik helped drive the BBC’s Top Gear from the TV screen to the newsstand, occasionally donning The Stig suit in the process, has written for a wide variety of lifestyle titles, newspapers and websites, and is currently Hagerty’s European Correspondent.

He also co-authored the best-selling car trivia book Top Gear Motor Mania with his dad, Ivan.

Nik is at his happiest when behind the wheel, whether that’s playing at being 007 in his classic Lotus Esprit or playing at being a racing driver in the real-life EnduroKA series and online in the virtual world of Gran Turismo.

With many years of road-tripping under his wheels, Nik founded detour-roadtrips.com to become the go-to website for road-trip inspiration and information.
