CLD’s CEO reveals insights behind Cova Security Gates acquisition

Just over three months on from the announcement of its acquisition of Cova Security Gates (CSG), Russell Wells, CEO at CLD Physical Security Systems (CLD), discusses how the union of the two brands has been a catalyst for the company’s strategic growth plan to expand its market presence globally.

Why did CLD choose to acquire CSG?

“CSG specialises in the design, manufacture, and supply of security gates, barriers, and bollards worldwide and were responsible for creating the world’s first crash-rated trackless bi-folding gates.

“CSG’s heritage and expertise in the HVM sector spans more than three decades, which will be a valuable asset to our business.

“The company has maintained a strong ethos of constant research and development, and this dedication ensures an ever-improving range of high-quality perimeter security products to add to our portfolio, ready to meet industry requirements.”

How will this acquisition transform CLD’s offering?

“As one of the largest suppliers of physical security systems in the UK, we create tailored, trusted and durable solutions for a wide range of environments.

“The integration of CSG’s portfolio, which features more than 14 crash-rated solutions, offers a transformative approach by offering the most advanced and comprehensive security products on the market.

“Combining almost 100 years of experience will allow for collaborative expertise and resources to drive efficiencies across production, reduce lead times and significantly elevate service level offerings, solidifying our reputation as a preferred partner for high-security projects worldwide.

“In turn, exposing the company to new markets, positioning us as the go to for on-ground and in-ground solutions.”

What product innovations has the acquisition enabled?

“The acquisition allows us to offer a more comprehensive suite of Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) products, in-house auto access solutions, and an expanded service and maintenance provision.

“Among these solutions, the Miti-Gate®R Manual Crash Tested Barrier stands out as the world’s first Vehicle Security Barrier independently tested to meet PAS 68, IWA 14-1 and CPNI Vehicle Attack Delay Standards (VADS).

“With this solution designed to withstand four different types of vehicle-borne attacks, it further strengthens our ability to protect critical national infrastructure as well as other high-profile businesses globally.

“Miti-Gate®R is part of our extensive lineup of solutions that are capable of withstanding vehicle impact speeds of 30mph, 40mph and 50mph from a 7.5-tonne vehicle.

“The compliant range covers a diverse array of products, including gates, bollards, barriers, and blockers.”

How can clients benefit from the merger?

“There are numerous benefits for clients, including access to a broader range of cutting-edge security solutions, improved service and maintenance offerings to ensure systems remain in optimal condition.

“What’s more, we are committed to continued investment in testing, latest-generation software, and automation to keep systems at the forefront of the industry.

“The acquisition of CSG’s 30,000 sq. ft. facility on the outskirts of London also expands our manufacturing capability to increase productivity and meet growing customer demand for high security solutions.”

What does the future hold for CLD?

“This acquisition signifies a pivotal moment for both CLD and CSG. Combining our strengths to offer unparalleled physical security solutions.

“This strategic move will bring significant benefits to customers, employees, and stakeholders.

“For the next 3-5 years, we intend to grow the business and will focus on further testing, incorporating the latest software, and automating process to maintain a leading edge in the market.

“As our two companies move forward together, there is a strong commitment to innovation, excellence, and delivering high-quality security solutions.

“The future looks promising with the enhanced offerings this acquisition brings, helping us to expand globally through technological advancement, enhanced market presence, as well as reinforcing our position as a leader in the physical security systems industry.”

Glideline reports a rise in sliding door enquiries as homeowners put sightlines on a pedestal

Nationwide aluminium manufacturer, Glideline, is reporting a notable increase in enquiries for its aluminium sliding doors over the past year, demonstrating its ability to deliver on homeowner demands for slim sightlines.

Enquiries and sales of Glideline’s aluminium sliding doors, namely its GS20 Sliding Door, has seen a 40% increase across the past 12 months, especially since the addition of its integrated flooring option – which offers a door that is completely flush with the floor.

These figures are in keeping with the latest Market Trends Report by Windowbase and Tommy Trinder, which found that over 85% of installers are now selling aluminium and 48% of which are sliding doors.

Managing Director, David Pickering says:

“We’re seeing more homeowners putting minimalism at the top of their checklists and the feedback we get from our installer customers echoes the same demands.

“This insight, coupled with aluminium’s surge in market share means it’s vital that our installer customers have a range of high-quality aluminium products that cater to these trends.

“Slim sightlines, natural light and indoor/outdoor living are just three of the big trends we’re seeing at the moment, alongside the growing interest around security and energy efficiency and we’re confident in saying that we have the products to cater to all of these demands.”

“The GS20 is among our most popular products.”

David adds:

“But with no threshold to break the transition between rooms, or from inside to outside, its new integrated flooring option creates a whole new level of functionality and seamlessness.”

In addition to its 20mm sightlines, the door can be customised with a wide range of colours and hardware, and up to 30mm glazing thickness for optimal thermal efficiency and weatherproof performance.

It is available in up to six sashes, offers a U-value of 1.3 W/m²K and noise reduction of up to 40 dB.

Glideline is a nationwide manufacturer of high performance and high quality aluminium windows and doors.

With its in-house manufacturing process and factory based in Great Yarmouth, Glideline has complete control of fabrication, ensuring exceptional quality across its unique product range of both standard and more bespoke aluminium windows and doors.

For more information about Glideline and its full range of aluminium products, visit www.glideline.com

Mul-T-Lock Unveils Dedicated #Locktober Campaign

Mul-T-Lock has transformed the month of October into Locktober, a month-long campaign designed to support locksmiths in providing expert advice and effective security solutions for the darker months ahead.

Locktober aims to help locksmiths guide their customers through the heightened risks associated with the winter season, including the significant increase in burglaries, equipping them with the right products and knowledge to secure homes and vehicles.

Launching the campaign, Suresh Peri, Mul-T-Lock Head of Commercial and Technical says:

“Crime Statistics show December and January are the peak times of year for burglaries, highlighting how it is incredibly important to consider home security measures in winter.

“Locksmiths play a vital role in helping homeowners feel safe and secure, offering the right solutions to make an opportunist burglar think twice.

“Locktober has been introduced to provide the tools and support to proactively offer their customers reliable, high-security solutions that make a real difference.”

Central to Locktober is the MTL™300 cylinder lock, known for its exceptional reliability in preventing common break-in techniques, such as picking, bumping, and drilling.

Locksmiths can confidently recommend the MTL™300 to homeowners looking to reinforce their front doors and other entry points.

Mul-T-Lock will also highlight the benefits of NE/NG padlocks, as well as the robust HaspLock Diamond, as versatile solutions for securing both residential and commercial premises.

These offer strong protection against tampering and forced entry, especially to sheds and outbuildings, which are often targeted and exposed as the darker nights set in.

For commercial van security, the MVP™2000 vehicle locking system is designed for ease of installation on a new vehicle, used in conjunction with MTL™300 or as a retrofit to an existing vehicle, and supplied with secure fixings.

It presents an all-in-one non-corrosive lock body solution with no hanging parts that could damage the paintwork around the lock.

Suresh concludes:

“As the nights grow longer, our goal with Locktober is to empower locksmiths with the right products, insights, and support to offer their customers peace of mind.

“By working together, we can help ensure homes, businesses, and vehicles are well-protected during the winter months and beyond, providing effective security measures that reduce vulnerabilities and enhance safety.

“Look out for our dedicated social media #locktober updates to get involved!”.

Norton’s first F1R ever produced up for auction

H&H Classics is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to own the first Norton F1R ever produced and raced.

The ultra rare 1990 F1R model is going under the hammer at its classic motorcycle auction on Wednesday 30th October at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull and is expected to fetch £52,000-£56,000.

Mike Davis, motorcycle specialist at H&H Classics, said:
“Our auction at the end of October is an incredible opportunity to own an extremely rare slice of motorcycle history.
“We expect a lot of interest in this special Norton F1, which has seen competitive action and won several races. It also looks amazing and is instantly recognisable in its black livery.”

Frame #1 was the first P55 (F1) to leave Norton’s Shenstone factory on 1 April 1990, and this highly desirable model has been in single ownership since new.

It was raced in the German 'Battle of the Twins' (BotP) Series. The engine was rebuilt a few years ago and now has specially machined high-compression rotors, aero twin-plug trochoids, and Mikuni flat-slide carbs. A works-type exhaust system was also added.

Mike added:
“Style, power and performance…the Norton F1R is the total package and this particular model, which has been running recently, is a must have for any Norton aficionado.”

British motorcycle manufacturer Norton has produced some truly iconic motorcycles, the F1R being one. Its name is known for speed, power, and innovation.

The Norton brand continues to be revered throughout the world, inspiring passion and loyalty among riders and enthusiasts alike.

Those wishing to bid on the Norton F1R or any of the other lots can do so on the day in person, via online or telephone bidding, or by leaving a commission bid.

Comp Doors, Uncompromising In Their Pursuit of Quality Excellence!

Comp Door has been designed and built on innovation, leading the way in the UK composite door market, with so many unique selling points that are so vast and powerful that their doors are truly beyond compare.

The 48mm solid core Falcata timber used by Comp Door is the start of the journey that sets them apart as market leaders in the industry, maximising security and enhancing thermal efficiencies.

Selecting this particular grade of timber helps minimise thermal movement or bowing whilst maximising overall performance and providing ultimate strength through the very core of the door.

This is clear in the finished feel of each door design.  Precision engineering provides an assurance of quality that is evident from the minute you open or shut any Comp Door.

The team are bold and speak with equal measures of confidence and pride when they say that you know quality when you touch it.

Standing head and shoulders above the rest, bringing sustainable innovation to door designs is the critical pivot that differentiates Comp Door.

Being the first in the industry to introduce and utilise a unique Adheer process, every door manufactured passes through specially invested machinery that applies a level layer and full corner to corner coverage of glue ready for door skinning.

This unique method of adhering bonds the skin layer to the solid timber core more evenly, maximising reliability and preventing the occurrence of delamination.

A direct result of their Adheer process created an additional special unique selling point for the business as Invisiedge was born.

Invisiedge provides a completely concealed colour edge to the door faces and provides a seamless colour edge to any door design.

Not content with eradicating delamination through Adheer, Comp Door then standardise the use of Coolskin Technology across their entire range.

The science behind Coolskin helps to reflect the harmful effects of UV rays from the sun and prevents colour skin fading or cracking.

The benefits of a Comp Door versus its nearest rival do not end here, 3 latch autofire locks are fitted to every Comp Door as standard.

These locks optimise compression, and the multi-latch deadbolt eliminates the need of the homeowner lifting the handle when closing the door.

What seems a simple end user benefit is in fact much more.  The deadbolt helps to protect any door design against misalignment and lock breaks helping to enhance the longevity and value that is built uncompromisingly into every Comp Door.

Fitted with 3* Diamond Rated ABS Master Cylinders as standard, any door design provides unbreakable protection and is patented with Anti-Snap that's proven to perform effectively and protect against any attempted lock snapping, anti-bump, anti-pick, and anti-drill making homes in the UK much safer and secure with every Comp Door!

Proudly Made in Britain and built to perform without compromise, Comp Door boast to attaining the industry’s first ever PAS24:2022 accreditation, a test-based assessment to ensure maximum security and safety.

Furthermore, they offer a full range of Coastal BLU marine grade stainless steel on their door hardware options, providing a lifetime guarantee to homeowners against surface corrosion, tarnishing or pitting.  Tactile real world quality that you can feel.

With more than 250 colour combinations and 100% colour match frame to slab on offer too, Comp Door truly excel at offering their installers’ homeowners the most unrivalled products with endless possibilities of choice.

All of this paired with their customer-centric unrivalled service and highly skilled team of experts that makes working with Comp Door a simple and margin-enhancing decision, every time!

Product innovation is the life blood that continually feeds the excitement and pursuit of quality without compromise at Comp Door.

Staying ahead and matching their resources to their customers’ expectations is why they are already enabling the manufacture of smart technology to offer their end user customers a product more consumer friendly and adaptable to the modern smart way of living.

Richard Diliberto, Sales Director at Comp Door explains:

“Our difference in service is centring our entire operation around our customers, our difference in products is in our meticulous level of detail in every single element of our doors’ unique design, creating the best composite door from a real inside out philosophy.

“When choosing which composite door to install our customers want complete assurance and confidence that the entire door is the most durable, aesthetically pleasing, and secure door on the market.

“Here at Comp Door, we are committed to designing and manufacturing the UK’s ultimate and in-demand composite door.

“We are the market leaders in our field and are always seeking to continually enhance and improve every feature of our product design, portfolio options, service and our innovation”.

Want manufacturing excellence and doors beyond compare?

Lorient introduces new RIBA approved CPD: "The Importance of Fire Doors & Intumescent Seals"

Lorient, a leading manufacturer of high-performance sealing systems, is proud to announce the launch of its new RIBA-approved CPD seminar, "The Importance of Fire Doors & Intumescent Seals."

Fire doors and intumescent seals are key components in preventing the spread of fire and smoke through a building, saving lives, and protecting property. This CPD is designed to provide architects, specifiers, and building professionals with valuable insights into the specification and installation of these life-saving systems, ensuring compliance with the latest fire safety standards.

Key Features of the CPD:
  • Detailed fire safety data: A review of current statistics on deaths, injuries, and property damage caused by fire and smoke, highlighting the essential role of effective fire doors and its components.
  • Comprehensive understanding of intumescent seals: Exploration of how intumescent seals function, the importance of third-party certification, and the impact of ironmongery on fire door performance.
  • Fire testing and standards in the UK: Detailed information on UK fire testing processes and fire/smoke leakage standards to ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Practical solutions: Real-world product solutions that meet fire safety requirements, providing practical advice for professionals tasked with specifying fire-resistant products.

With fire safety regulations becoming more stringent, Lorient’s CPD is a timely resource for professionals across the construction and building industries. It clearly explains fire doors, intumescent seals, and the practical steps needed to ensure compliance and protection.
“We are thrilled to introduce this RIBA-approved CPD, which emphasises the crucial role of fire doors and intumescent seals in passive fire protection,” said Sarah Lewis, Specification Manager at Lorient. “Our goal is to empower professionals with the latest knowledge and tools needed to specify and install the most effective fire safety solutions.”

The RIBA-approved CPD is now available for booking through Lorient’s website, with both in-person and virtual options. Whether professionals require CPD certification or tailored presentations, Lorient offers accessible and practical learning opportunities.
