The return of an icon: Healey by Caton centre stage at Salon Privé London

The all-new and ultra-exclusive Healey by Caton will make its global public debut at the inaugural Salon Privé London, 21-23 April, as the reincarnation of the iconic Austin-Healey 100 sports car arrives at Royal Hospital Chelsea for the luxury car event.

Healey by Caton is a unique combination of cutting edge design and engineering along with traditional techniques that deliver a driver’s car for the modern age. Promising an immersive, intoxicating and emotional automotive experience, the first creation by the all-new luxury British brand Caton draws on precision visual and performance enhancements to bring the car up to date, yet protects the ethos of the Austin-Healey 100.

Healey by Caton embodies the new British brand’s approach to creating and manufacturing products fusing timeless craftsmanship with the latest technologies and processes. Instantly recognisable, and respectful of the original’s design principles, just 25 examples at the firm’s Coventry, UK workshop, situated a mere ten miles from the original Austin-Healey HQ.
“It’s a true honour to welcome the Healey by Caton to Salon Privé London for its global public debut,” said Director David Bagley.
“This really is the return of a legend, held in high esteem by enthusiasts around the world. To be able to give this new car, conceived, engineered and built in the UK, a stage in London is a privilege as we open our inaugural event at Royal Hospital Chelsea.”
“When we embarked on this journey, and had the dream to launch Caton and its first product: Healey by Caton, as a team we knew we had to unveil to a global audience but situated at a UK event,” commented Tim Strafford, CEO of Caton’s strategic vehicle building partner, Envisage Group.
“Salon Privé London was the obvious choice, starting our strategic events tour, and I’m excited to unveil the Healey by Caton next on Thursday 21st April.”

Returning the revered Austin-Healey 100 as a sports car fit for the future, Caton brings its exceptional experience, OEM-level technology and craftmanship to bear with great effect. As its first vehicle, Healey by Caton is a coach built tour de force that focuses exclusively on the sympathetic enhancement and evolution of a cherished tenet.

Drawing on strategic partner Envisage Group’s extensive resources, the team behind the project has also deployed traditional handcrafting skills and tools that would be recognised by those building the original Healeys. With mechanical components reconfigured as new, and new technology augmented where appropriate, Healey by Caton eliminates any concerns customers may have with buying a classic as it offers peace of mind, undeniable beauty and thrilling performance as standard.

Tim Strafford, CEO of Caton’s strategic vehicle building partner, Envisage Group, said:
“Caton will stand for the best in British coachbuilding, and is the vision of our [Envisage Group’s] investors. We decided that the first product by Caton had to be creative, stand out in the marketplace, appeal to a global audience, and it was a natural step that we chose to put our Caton mark on a Healey 100.”

As befitting Salon Privé’s status as one of the world’s most prestigious automotive events, eight cars will be making their global, European or UK debut at Royal Hospital Chelsea.

The very latest models from the likes of Alpine, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Genesis, Lamborghini, Pininfarina, Porsche and Rolls-Royce will be on display alongside Morgan Motor Company, as well as the latest machinery from Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles.

These will be joined by British specialists Charge Cars, Everrati, Jensen Automotive and Overfinch, to provide a line-up that covers everything from reimagined classics to next-generation hypercars and EVs.

Salon Privé London is donating 20% of all Entry Ticket revenue to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) via Work for Good. #StandWithUkraine

NBG calls for ‘Pricing Realism’ as Inflation Bites

The impact of inflation across the construction supply chain fuelled by energy increases has led one of the UK’s largest buying groups to call for “realism” in pricing negotiations.

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) is forecasting an inflation peak of 9% this year which is driving material costs up along the length of the construction supply chain.

Whilst able to accept reasonable cost pressure, the National Buying Group (NBG) is increasingly concerned that price changes must be justified and be proportionate with transparent detail to support any changes.

Nick Oates, Managing Director at National Buying Group says the market is difficult for everyone:

“We understand this is a very challenging market and that is being reflected in our negotiations. However, there is a real danger that if prices increase too much, we will impact the demand from the end consumer, which could ultimately kill the market. We need to spread the inflationary impact across the supply chain.”

For the merchant, passing price increases on to the end-user is increasingly more challenging, because they must also factor in the greatly increased cost of delivery onto any product price changes, says Nick. “Merchants are arguably the most vulnerable portion of the supply chain to this ‘double squeeze’ from both material and fuel pricing. In effect, merchants must find an extra circa 5% on top of the increase in material prices to cover the cost of delivery.”

Nick says suppliers to the merchant sector can help in two ways – by looking at their stock levels and asking for “realistic” price increases.
“We’re asking Suppliers to be reasonable about when they ask for price increases. If a Supplier is sitting on many months of stock, there is no need to ask for a price increase today.
“Secondly, prices need to be more dynamic and reactive to commodity price changes. When commodity prices come down, Suppliers need to react as quickly as when they go up. That is only fair.”
He concluded: “NBG and its Partners have always prided themselves on building strong relationships with their Suppliers. We understand that suppliers cannot absorb all the increase in cost and a proportion needs to be passed on, but independent merchants are also being impacted and their margins eroded by the cost of delivery, so we must take a longer-term balanced view.”

JD (UK) LTD and Alutech invite you to visit them at FIT Show

JD (UK) LTD is inviting garage door installers and manufacturers to visit them on Alutech Systems stand F31 at FIT Show, NEC Birmingham, on 10th – 12th May 2022.

The highly-popular trade exhibition was set to take place in September 2021, but was rescheduled due to the uncertainty surrounding covid restrictions.

Originally aimed at the glazing market, FIT Show has also attracted visitors from the garage door industry, due to a crossover in markets and garage door companies looking to add other products areas to their business.

Managing Director, Steve Hudson, said:
“With a really strong presence in both the garage door and aluminium door markets, we see a lot of opportunities for our customers to easily branch out into new product areas. For example, garage door installers are often at properties where windows and doors are also being replaced, making them a perfect upsell opportunity.
“Similarly, roller shutter fabricators may have the facilities to fabricate our bifolds. We appreciate every company and sole trader is different, but we’re ideally placed to have conversations with anyone looking to capitalise on the opportunities they’re presented with. If this idea interests you, then we urge you to come along and talk to us more about it so we can find the best solution for you.”
Alutech’s stand at FIT Show will be the public launchpad for the eagerly anticipated slim window system from Alutech, as well as a slim sliding patio door system. These new additions will take Alutech another step closer to being a one-stop shop for aluminium home improvement products.

The impressive modular stand will also display the much-loved favourites from Alutech, including the highly versatile and incredibly fitter-friendly BF73 system for bifolds, French doors and single doors. Representatives from JD (UK) LTD will also be present on the stand, ready to meet with garage door suppliers looking to take advantage of the synergies between the garage door, bifolding door and window sectors.

VanSeal – The Dock Shelter for the Van and Parcel Distribution Markets

Due to the rapidly growing e-commerce market, more and more vans are constantly being used to distribute a vast amount of goods from specialised logistics hubs.

For a speedy operation, specific dock solutions that perfectly aid the loading and unloading process are crucial to enable a continuous movement of goods. During operation speed and efficiency are essential, at the same time there is a need to ensure the safety of personnel and valuable goods. mydocking´s VanSeal VS250 offers a strong solution for these challenges in the demanding parcel distribution market.

The VS250 is specifically designed for the optimal loading and unloading of city vans. The huge variety of different delivery van shapes and sizes requires the seal between the van and the warehouse to be highly versatile. Hence, a unique structure to satisfy all demands was developed. The VanSeal was designed to be durable with soft cushions sealing the area between the van and the door entirely allowing for high energy efficiency within the warehouse.

It is equipped with a roof with an integrated rain gutter for weather protection against rain, draughts and snow to ensure the health and happiness of staff and the safety of valuable goods. A basic construction made of pre-galvanised steel and flexible foam cushions that allow for high flexibility make the VanSeal especially durable. For optimal sealing and tear protection, all cushions are coated with a durable synthetic fabric. The horizontal cushions are manually height-adjustable to fit all delivery van sizes and shapes. Special finned side cushions lead to the perfect lateral seal.

Thanks to this patented structure, it is possible to position the vertical cushions in an optimal position to protect both the dock shelter and the back of the van perfectly against damage. According to DIN 75200, the dock shelter is flame retardant increasing safety in the loading area.

To individualise this dock shelter to the requirements you have, there is the option to choose a recess for rearview cameras. Additionally, you can choose to have white vertical stripes placed on the top side cushion to guide the driver in the perfect parking position.

The goal at mydocking is simple – to manufacture high-quality loading technology solutions for an efficient and safe loading environment. Therefore, various dock shelters for all-around protection with different requirements are in the product portfolio, such as flap dock shelters, inflatable and cushion dock seals.

Hennessey Venom F5 Wins Prestigious Red Dot Design Award

Hennessey, the Texas-based hypercar manufacturer and high-performance vehicle creator, has won a prestigious 2022 Red Dot design award for its Venom F5 hypercar.

Following Hennessey’s ‘function defines form’ design language, the exterior design of the Venom F5 revels in simplicity, combining minimal sharp lines with smooth flowing surfaces. The car’s function informs every part of the car’s sculpted body – sleekness, agility, and speed.

Nathan Malinick, Hennessey Director of Design:
“We began our design journey with a goal to be the fastest car in the world. As the F5 evolved and our targeted dynamic capabilities were defined, we relied on a guiding principle, ‘function defines form’, to sculpt the exterior. We worked closely with our engineering team to skin the beast with aerospace-inspired forms, creating a technologically capable machine while remaining immensely beautiful.”

The exterior of the Venom F5 is shaped by aerodynamics and inspired by the pursuit of speed. The hypercar exudes determination, purpose, and drama from every direction with sculpted aerodynamic ducting and purposeful lines that provide a sense of speed and intent.

The passenger cabin of the Venom F5 is simple, lean, and elegant. Designed to evoke the spirit of fast fighter jets – complete with an aircraft ‘yoke’ for steering – the space exhibits minimal distractions while promoting maximum driver visibility, tactility, and functionality.

The Venom F5 is Hennessey’s first ‘ground-up’ designed and engineered series-production vehicle and represents the beginning of a new chapter in the brand’s history. The model is extreme on every level, delivering unprecedented performance through extensive use of lightweight innovative materials, notably an all-new carbon fibre chassis. When combined with the in-house developed 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the F5 achieves an unparalleled power-to-weight ratio and a driving experience like nothing else.

John Hennessey, company founder and CEO:
“The entire Hennessey team is extremely proud to win such a prestigious design award on our first submission. The Venom F5 has been a dream of mine for years, so for others to recognize its beauty is special and gratifying.”
Hennessey Special Vehicles recently completed the technical development of the Venom F5, transitioning to a new phase as the focus turns to scaling-up production of customer cars. During recent validation testing of the F5, Hennessey test driver Spencer Geswein exceeded 270 mph. All 24 Venom F5 coupe models are sold, and the team will complete as many as 12 vehicles this year.

Late in 2021, Hennessey demonstrated yet more design flair, unveiling the world’s first six-wheel-drive hyperlux GT, code-named ‘Project Deep Space’. Boasting prodigious levels of power and performance, the fully electric model, set for production in 2026, features unique four-place diamond seating, and private-jet-class comfort.

The prestigious Red Dot Award for product design dates to the 1950s. Each year, the competition goes in search of outstanding design achievements and product innovations – evaluating nearly 20,000 entries from more than 60 countries. BFT Climbs Snowdon to Raise Funds in Colleague’s Memory

BFT Automation has raised £4,234 for Macmillan Cancer Support – and is working towards raising £5,000 for Cancer Research – after climbing Mount Snowdon in a colleague’s memory.

Andrew Hutchins, Automation Advisor at BFT, lost his battle with bladder cancer last year. The climb was originally planned to raise funds for Macmillan, which supported Andrew during his end-of-life care, but following his passing, friends and family decided to direct further fundraising to Cancer Research.

Seventeen colleagues from BFT’s offices in Swindon and Stockport and friends took part in the climb on 2 April as part of a range of fundraising initiatives by the company.

“Andrew was a valued member of the team for many years and we’ve been honoured to climb Mount Snowdon in his memory, after cancer took him before he had the chance to conquer it himself,” said Peter Gansbuehler, an Automation Advisor at BFT, who worked alongside Andrew and organised the climb.

It’s not too late to donate to BFT’s charity climb via: www.justgiving.com
