Element Wednesbury achieves UKAS accreditation for TS008 letter plate assembly testing

Element Materials Technology has achieved UKAS accreditation for its built environment laboratory in Wednesbury to test letter plate assemblies and slide-through boxes in line with TS 008: 2022.

The site is one of a select few ‘Approved Laboratory’ facilities authorised by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to test products against the new technical specification, which supersedes TS 008: 2015.

The document, which was brought into effect by the Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) in June 2022, is intended to provide an updated means of evaluation against opportunist attacks via letter plate assemblies and slide-through boxes.

Element’s UKAS accreditation for its Wednesbury laboratory also covers the testing of door cylinders in line with TS 007: 2014 + A2: 2018, making it one of the UK’s leading laboratories for physical security and burglar resistance testing.

Successful testing in line with TS 008: 2022 or TS 007: 2018 is a key requirement for manufacturers of letter plate assemblies, slide-through boxes and door cylinders looking to successfully complete PAS 24 testing. It also provides compliance with the regulatory requirements of Document Q of the Building Regulations and for entry into the Secured by Design licence scheme.

Christopher Bryan, Senior Test Engineer at Element Materials Technology, comments:
“Letterbox crime is a very real threat to residents across the country. Door furniture and hardware manufacturers are acutely aware of the home security benefits that PAS 24-compliant letter plate assembles and slide-through boxes can provide, and many have been working hard to develop solutions which can outthink common criminal practices to keep occupants and their belongings safe.
“With the DHF making several important updates to TS 008, the UKAS accreditation of our Wednesbury laboratory significantly enhances the available testing capacity for manufacturers looking to put their products at the forefront of home protection.”
