The Master Locksmiths Association Backs National Home Security Month

Dr Steffan George, development director of the
Master Locksmiths Association.

This October, The Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) – the leading trade association for the locksmithing industry - is supporting National Home Security Month, which is designed to raise awareness of home security as the darker nights draw in.

With the clocks going back this year on Sunday October 27, the national initiative aims to highlight ways in which the general public can keep their homes and families safe, and provides advice through its website, www.homesecuritymonth.com, where users can also register for a newsletter providing security information.

Sponsored by security product manufacturer and MLA Affiliate Member Yale, the scheme provides tips on securing doors and windows, protecting outbuildings and using safes to guard valuables, as well as advising householders on burglar alarms and hi-tech security measures.

Dr Steffan George, development director for the Master Locksmiths Association, said:
“As an organisation committed to promoting home security, we’re delighted to be supporting National Home Security Month.

“This initiative is raising awareness of home security at a crucial time, with the darker nights providing further opportunities for criminals and making properties more vulnerable to burglary or vandalism.

“Encouraging the public to improve the security of their properties is to be applauded.”

Dr George added:
“If a homeowner, tenant or landlord wishes to review and update the security of their property, we’d always recommend they use a local, third party-accredited, professional locksmith, such as an MLA member, to undertake any work. This will ensure that products are specified and fitted correctly, and that insurance policies aren’t adversely affected.”

David Herbert, Head of Marketing for Yale, commented:
“This is the first year National Home Security Month has taken place and we are delighted that it has attracted support from a number of big names, including the Master Locksmiths Association, as well as industry bodies, locksmiths and the media.

“The campaign runs throughout October and is designed to create awareness around home security, driving demand for locksmith services throughout the autumn and winter.”

Organisations and businesses that sign up to support National Home Security Month will be given access to a secure part of www.homesecuritymonth.com, where they can access a range of promotional materials including posters, window stickers and social media content.
