P C Henderson introduces stylish and practical new Twinbolt locking system

P C Henderson, leading international manufacturer of door hardware systems, is pleased to introduce the innovative new Twinbolt system to its customers.

This now enables the door to be locked internally at the top and bottom of the door by turning one handle 90 degrees, removing the need to manually engage two flush bolts.

With over 90 years’ experience in the manufacture of door hardware systems, P C Henderson identified the demand in the residential architectural market for the Twinbolt, offering two points of discreet security with throw rods top and bottom.

Designed for easy installation, this system unlike many others on the market requires minimal routing and additional adjustment to the supplied components, the Twinbolt offers many benefits to the joiner and the customer.

The new concealed locking system can be specified alongside Securefold accommodating a timber door weight of 100kg for exterior applications. A sleek handle provides a modern and stylish finish. Routing detail cover strips can also be specified in three colour options of black, white and brown to match the door finish.

Andrew Royle, UK Commercial Director at P C Henderson comments:
“The new Twinbolt locking system offers an alternative to customers who do not want to have to manually engage two flush bolts when locking the swing door. Without compromising on security, the throw rods are engaged simultaneously by turning the satin finish handle 90 degrees which then locks the door into position.”
For added security and convenience Twinbolt incorporates the Yale Securiturn™ Removable Thumbturn. This provides the flexibility of a keyed cylinder lock when required whilst allowing the use of a thumbturn for everyday convenience which can easily be removed when required by using the specialist tool provided within the kit. Henderson products are designed with ease of installation in mind and also durability to provide the upmost value for money.

P C Henderson’s online EXPERT service is totally free and offers fast and accurate specification and a no obligation quotation for all projects.

Combining innovative design and high performance in new sports centre

A new sports and leisure centre has installed 133 Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw performance timber doorsets as part of its drive to create a state-of-the-art facility.

Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw was selected to work alongside Graham Construction on the £17million Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre development in Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, because of its ability to create doorset solutions that meet the varied performance and design demands of a leisure environment.

The centre’s facilities include an eight-lane short course championship 25m pool, training and teaching pools, seating for 250 spectators and an 80-station fitness suite as well as a café, administration area and meeting rooms. Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw worked closely with Graham Construction and architects Cre8 Architecture during the specification process to identify the best products for each application and address project specific requirements.

This included specifying Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw’s innovative Envision door facing. Envision enables the intricate detail of high definition, photographic images to be incorporated into a factory assembled doorset. The image or design is digitally reverse painted and encapsulated behind 2mm of material, providing protection against wear.

This design capability allowed clear, bright graphics of activities, such as weightlifting and swimming, or objects, such as showerheads, to be incorporated into doors to help people navigate their way around the building.

Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw’s Group Marketing Manager Shafiq Sharif says:
“We worked with the architects to identify the best solutions for each situation and because of the flexible nature of Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw’s products we could tailor them to meet specific requirements. For example, the image of a camera on the viewing platform doorset runs from the door face onto the glass. This meant we had to change the pigment slightly in the Envision material to match the manifestation colour.”
Also specified was the Plasform WR performance doorset which is designed for use in wet areas such as swimming pools and changing rooms. Plasform WR’s fully sealed cores and glazing systems offer enhanced water resistance in addition to the PVC encapsulation that characterises the Plasform range. This provides protection against the daily demands of leisure environments, in which fixtures are exposed to humidity, water and chlorine based disinfectants.

Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw’s expertise, combined with its range of performance products, ensure it is able to create solutions that rise to these specific challenges, which is why contractors such as Graham Construction value it so highly as a partner on leisure sector projects.

How Tradesmen Can Offer Homeowners Peace Of Mind

Recent statistics have revealed that home burglaries increase by 20% during winter evenings. As doors are the main point of access into a property, particular attention should be paid to ensure that these areas are secure.

In celebration of National Home Security Month (October 2014), Martin Smith, product manager at IronmongeryDirect, looks at how tradespeople can advise customers on the security options available to keep their homes protected.

With the nights drawing in, homeowners and businesses are becoming increasingly aware of the need to make their premises more secure. Fortunately, there are countless products on the market that can help protect a property but it makes sense for tradespeople to suggest high-quality security products that are easy to install and cost-effective.

Mortice locks are the perfect security solution for external doors as they have solid deadlocks and hardened steel rollers that are drill and force resistant, therefore providing robust and durable protection. The A-Spec BS36215 Lever Deadlock is one of the most popular locks on the market because it is drill, pick and force resistant, and the stainless steel anti-thrust and anti-saw bolt provides ultimate peace of mind and security. As deadlocks can only be opened with a key, it prevents thieves from smashing glass panels to open the door from the inside.

Tradespeople should also recommend locks that have been tested and certified to British Standard 3621:2004. They provide exceptional security because they have been rigorously tested for burglar resistance, which includes lock picking and tampering. It is worth noting that many insurance companies recognise this British Standard and will reduce their premiums accordingly. Examples of locks which conform to this standard are the Yale Double Locking Nightlatch .

Kickstop door reinforcing products are designed specifically to reinforce and strengthen the door and frame around existing locks and hinges. They don’t require locking or bolting, and once fitted they automatically provide additional physical security every time the door is closed and locked. As such they are recommended by the Metropolitan Police to protect against ‘kick-in’ attacks.

If the door in question doesn’t have a window or other means of checking who’s at the door, it is also worth suggesting the installation of a door viewer. To enhance safety, electronic door viewers offer a contemporary and state-of-the-art way of securing premises. The door viewer displays a live image of who is entering the grounds which is more accurate than using a standard door viewer. This clearer image gives the user an additional level of security as they do not have to open the door to unsolicited callers.

Trade professionals who are unsure about any security products can find out more by talking to their supplier.

Assa Abloy Security Doors Durable Coating

ASSA ABLOY, Security Doors, a division of ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions, manufactures all its doors in Galvanneal steel, ideal for powder coating to increase durability and corrosion resistance.

The hot dipped galvanised steel, originally developed for the automotive industry, offers a coating that is uniformly spread, to provide a consistent appearance over an entire door and its fine matte finish acts as a primer, shielding against rust.

A tightly adherent paint film on galvanneal steel lasts longer then it would on non-galvanized steel because the zinc helps prevent rusting and blistering, which reduces maintenance and replacement expenditure and improves whole life costing.

Nigel Cronin, Sales Manager at ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said:
“All our steel doors are manufactured from high quality steel that conforms to both British and European standards. Galvanneal steel offers a far superior coating in comparison to zinc-iron coatings, such as zintec.

“The smooth surface of galvanneal steel is ideal for the polyester powder coating we offer inhouse, which not only improves the aesthetic appearance of paintwork, but also improves scratch and impact resistance, reducing maintenance and replacement expenditure for facilities managers who are under increasing pressure to consider whole life costing.”

‘Brand new’ Lotus Sunbeam for auction

This ‘brand new’ Lotus Sunbeam is on offer
in Silverstone Auctions’ sale at the Lancaster Insurance
Classic Motor Show.

Silverstone Auctions is offering the chance to own a ‘brand new’ hot hatch icon, a 1980 Talbot Lotus Sunbeam, in its auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. The car is presented in immaculate, as new condition, has never been registered and has covered just 193 miles in its lifetime.

The left-hand drive, time warp car was discovered overlooked and ignored as part of a large private collection in Italy by the current vendor. Every single aspect of the car is factory standard and it appears like it has just rolled off the production line. It is estimated at between £24,000 and £28,000 and finished in the evocative colour scheme of Embassy Black with silver decals.

“It’s incredibly rare to discover a historic car that is ‘brand new’ but this is exactly what we have here. Sitting in this amazing example takes you right back to the late 70s and early 80s and the early days of the hot hatchback”, said Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions.

The time warp car has never been registered and is preserved
in immaculate condition.

The Talbot Sunbeam-Lotus was one of the most exciting hot hatchbacks to emerge from the 1970s. It originally came about because Chrysler commissioned Lotus to produce an effective entrant for international Group 4 rallying. Lotus took a Sunbeam 1.6GLS shell and installed a 2.2-litre version of the Lotus 16-valve four-cylinder engine and a five-speed ZF gearbox. It proved very effective in rallying, winning the challenging 1980 Lombard-RAC event. The road-going version proved quick and balanced, although it was priced higher than the comparable Chevette HS or Escort RS2000.

The car has only covered 193 miles in its lifetime
Having never been registered, the buyer of this vehicle will be the first registered keeper in its history. Supplied with all hand books, service books and a fresh UK MoT, this 1980s icon is an incredible find for any collector of modern-classics.

“This really is a time warp car, immaculately preserved. Nothing has been modified and this must surely be the only unregistered and lowest mileage Talbot Lotus Sunbeam in existence”, added Nick.

The vendor describes this vehicle as in "perfect running order” and will be supplied with a NOVA certificate for the new owner to register the car. The car will be auctioned on the 16th of November at the NEC, Birmingham as part of Silverstone Auctions’ two-day sale the Classic Motor Show.
