Yale sponsors National Home Security Month to help fortify Britain’s homes

Yale Door and Window Solutions is proud to sponsor National Home Security Month (NHSM) for its sixth year this October.

The campaign, which highlights the importance of home security to UK homeowners, is helping drive demand for security products and installation services nationwide.

The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Make your home your castle’, playing on the old English proverb. A person’s property should be a place they take pride in, spend time with loved ones and most of all feel safe.

However, much like a castle needs to have defences in place from attacks, homeowners need to protect their sanctuary from the threat of burglars. As a result, NHSM will be providing information and advice throughout the month.

Paul Atkinson, Sales and Commercial Director for Yale Door and Window Solutions, commented:
“NHSM is a great initiative to get involved with. Taking place in October, it coincides with the onset of the clocks going back and darker winter evenings which is a pivotal period for security sales and a time when people consider upgrading doors and windows, when consumers awareness of home burglary increases.
“Unfortunately, across the UK, a considerable number of homeowners admit to having no home security measures in place, with most turning to security reactively when a burglary occurs, rather than preventing the issue beforehand. NHSM is attempting to change this attitude by pushing home security to the forefront of people’s minds. This presents a lucrative opportunity to installers and fabricators alike to raise awareness of the subject and engage with customers.”

Week two of the campaign in particular presents a prime opportunity for door and window fabricators and installers, as it looks at securing the entry points of a home and valuables within it. Dubbed ‘Setting the standard’, the week explores traditional window and door locks and delves into the latest standards and technical specifications such as PAS24 and TS008.

This provides an ideal opportunity to up-sell British Standard locking solutions, such as the Yale Platinum 3 Star cylinder, Platinum 2 Star cylinder pull, and the Postmaster Professional TS008 Letter-plate.

However, opportunities are not limited to week two. Week four of the campaign falls when the clocks go back, and while the rest of the UK winds back, NHSM is looking forward with its ‘Future focused’ week. This will have a particular emphasis on smart door locks, such as the Conexis L1.

More and more homeowners are investing in smart security devices that can be controlled remotely via a smartphone but want a trade professional to install devices for them. This week will provide information to customers on the benefits of smart security and gives installers a great opportunity to capitalise on a growing marketplace.

Other weeks include a focus on alarms, outdoor security and how homeowners can protect their sheds and outbuildings, and also a seasonal look at Halloween and Bonfire Night – statistically the worst time of year for domestic burglaries and damage*.

For those fabricators, distributors and installers that sign up to support this year’s campaign, NHSM will provide a range of promotional collateral and marketing materials that can be distributed to customers and used online and in-store to help raise awareness of the campaign and boost security sales.
