Opening the door into public sector projects: new £100m framework for door suppliers

Door manufacturers working to the highest standards of safety and security are being sought for a new four-year framework to supply social housing and other public sector projects.

The Communal Doors, Entrance Doors and Associated Products (C8) framework from LHC covers the supply, fit and maintenance of doorsets and associated door hardware for a range of buildings including multi-occupancy residential; education; local government; police and fire authority buildings. It is setting very specific requirements to cover safety and security in a bid to increase standards in public buildings.

Mij Rahman, director of procurement at LHC, said:
“We have combined two of our previously successful frameworks, Entrance Doorsets and Communal Entrance Doorsets, to create a more comprehensive route for local authorities, housing associations and other public sector bodies who may have projects that require multiple doors to be installed and maintained.
“Our focus for this new framework is to generate a pool of pre-approved suppliers that have a proven track record of delivering high quality products and first-class technical support. We’re looking for products that don’t just comply with the minimum standards but go above and beyond. Contracting authorities need to have access to doorsets and hardware that have been independently tested and certificated to show that the products will offer long term value and deliver as expected.”

Enhanced security testing to PAS24:2016, LPS1175 or the recommendations of Secured by Design is essential for standard composite and timber doors that will be supplied via the framework. Bi-directional fire testing of composite fire doors is a mandatory requirement, with all fire doorsets that are installed holding certification as a completed assembly.

The framework is split into seven lots covering composite and timber doors, both fire and non-fire rated, communal entrance and exit doors, and access control. Workstream seven is a so-called ‘super lot’ and is available to suppliers who can fulfil the requirements of all six workstreams.

 The C8 workstreams:

  • Workstream one: composite doorsets
  • Workstream two: composite fire doorsets
  • Workstream three: timber doorsets
  • Workstream four: timber fire doorsets
  • Workstream five: communal entrance and exit doors
  • Workstream six: access control installation
  • Workstream seven: all materials and fire doors (super lot)
