Winkhaus renew membership with Secured by Design

Winkhaus is one of the latest companies to renew their membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative.

Winkhaus UK are part of the 160 year old worldwide Winkhaus Group, with over 2,000 employees worldwide.

Leading manufacturers of high security locking systems for doors and windows, Winkhaus offer a premium and cutting edge product range graduating from lift lever locks through to automatic and electronic locks.

Winkhaus recently became the first long-standing SBD member company to hold the latest dual compliance for both Q Mark Fire BS EN 1634 and PAS24 enhanced security on both their SBD-accredited composite and timber fire and security doorset solutions.

Winkhaus’ test evidence and accreditation underwent rigorous third-party certification by a UKAS-accredited body to ensure compliance with the latest 2020 MHCLG Government guidance document Building a Safer Future: An Implementation Plan advice note 16 in Annex B, as well as SBD’s ‘Guide for Selecting Flat Entrance Doorset requirements.’

The Winkhaus Fire & Security Doorset solution utilises their AV2 and AV3 range of multi-point autoLocks with Winkhaus’ fully-finished and low-maintenance frame system, FireFrame® for composite doorsets, or a timber frame for timber doorsets.

The system offers specifiers and fabricators a choice of FD30 and FD60 composite and timber door assemblies. Its versatility allows a choice of doorset styles, including solid and glazed versions with or without fanlights.

SBD Development Officer Doug Skins said:
"Winkhaus were one of the first members of SBD with their door and window hardware back in 1999 and have been supporters of the work we do since then.
“It is great that they have renewed their membership with SBD and I look forward to working with them over the coming years”.

SBD is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI), a police owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives across the UK. PCPI is a not-for-profit organisation and Board Members include senior police officers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who control and direct the work PCPI carries out on behalf of the Police Service.

SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.

Products must be subject to rigorous testing and additionally be fully certificated by an independent, third-party certification body accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) before being allowed to carry the SBD logo - this is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
