Sentry Doors celebrate 12 years with SBD

Sentry Doors have celebrated 12 years membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative, adding to their range of products accredited by SBD.

Sentry Doors, a specialist manufacturer of timber fire and security door-sets for the social housing, public sector, commercial and residential markets, added the FD 30 Timber 44mm Doorset range to their products which have achieved Police Preferred Specification.

The timber doorset range has recently achieved dual certification compliance for both fire and security,

Operating nationally from a 33,000 square foot facility in Doncaster, Sentry has established a strong reputation over the years for manufacturing products that meet the most rigorous quality and fire certification standards.

Trading since 1989, Sentry Doors celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, the same time that SBD also celebrated its 30th anniversary.  Sentry Doors was founded by Gordon Yates, starting as a family business in Doncaster that operated from a 12,000 square foot site.

The company went from strength to strength and in June 2018 moved into a 33,000 square foot site with room for expansion.

In February 2019 the family sold the business to Cairngorm Capital to facilitate further investment in the business and enable further development.

Ty Aziz, Sentry Doors, said:
“Fire resistance and security go hand in hand. At Sentry Doors we have been supplying fully certified timber fire and security doors since I joined in 1997.
“We see the Secured by Design initiative as imperative in order that we can continue to protect residents safety and security as this offers peace of mind that our door sets meet the exacting requirements set out by the scheme.”
SBD Technical Manager Alfie Hosker said:
“Sentry Doors have been with us for well over a decade now, with a range of timber doorsets both with enhanced security and fire performance which meets Secured by Design Police Preferred Specification. Here’s to another 30 successful years for the company”.

SBD is the official police security initiative that is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim to reduce crime and help people live more safely.

SBD seek to improve the physical security of buildings using products, such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

In addition, SBD work closely with builders, developers, local authorities and registered housing associations to incorporate the police crime prevention standards into developments from initial concept and design, through to construction and completion.

Police forces throughout the UK have specially trained Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) who offer police designing out crime and SBD advice free of charge. Over one million homes have been built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.

SBD developed a product based accreditation scheme over 20 years ago – the Police Preferred Specification, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.

There are currently many hundreds of companies producing thousands of attack resistant crime prevention products, across over 30 different crime categories, which have achieved Police Preferred Specification.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
