Leading doorset company Performance Doorset Solutions (PDS), in collaboration with hardware manufacturer UAP, recently hosted a successful Awareness Day for Police Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) at the PDS site in Littleborough, Lancashire.
The event brought together representatives of the two companies with DOCOs from several police forces, including Greater Manchester, Cheshire, West Yorkshire and Lancashire, and was attended by Secured by Design (SBD) Development Officer Hazel Goss. The day served as a valuable opportunity to showcase cutting-edge doorset and hardware security technologies to the specialist officers, whose role is critical in influencing secure design across the built environment.
Attendees were welcomed by the teams at PDS and UAP who each gave introductions to their companies, before diving into a series of product demonstrations and discussions around evolving security threats and innovation. Later in the day, the DOCOs and other assembled guests had the opportunity to tour the PDS facility, learning more about the company’s products and the manufacturing process from raw timber to bespoke doorsets.
Kevin Pritchard, UAP, presented the company’s latest advancements in cylinder security, including a live demonstration of attack methods outlined in the new PAS24:2022+A1:2024 standard. Kevin highlighted how UAP’s new 3-Star Freeze Guard Cylinder, the first to gain Kitemark certification under the updated standard, effectively neutralises threats such as cylinder freezing - a method increasingly used in targeted attacks.

Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, said: “I want to thank PDS for an excellent day, it was a packed full event, with a classroom session, factory tour and an extra bonus of live demonstrations of lock attacks delivered by UAP, another SBD member company. It was a very successful day and I know the DOCOs and I who attended all left knowing a lot more than before, which is why we hold these ‘Awareness Days’.”
Kerri Ellis, Ben Davies, and Gary Greaves represented PDS, while Elliott Dawson and Kevin Pritchard represented UAP, contributing to what was widely regarded as an engaging and productive event.
