Six vehicles featured in the new Channel 4 series ‘Cars’ led by star Philip Glenister are to be sold on behalf of the major broadcaster by international auctioneers Coys at their famous Spring Classics auction in London on March 11th. Also on offer will be Brian Epstein’s Bentley.
The cars going under the hammer are a 1947 MG TC, a 1950 Series 1 Land Rover, a 1964 Austin Mini Cooper Mk1 998cc, 1972 Ford Escort Mexico Mk1, a 1976 Triumph Stag and a 1981 Delorean DMC-12. They are part of a new series, which Channel 4 is to broadcast later this year, that follows Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes star Philip Glenister in an attempt to discover their story as an important part in the UK’s post-war social history.

Coys will also be selling a Bentley S3 once owned by The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein. The car, which bears the original AJB400B registration number, was first registered on 18th February 1964 and was Epstein’s first brand new Bentley. It is estimated at $30,000 to £40,000. The sale will feature another British iconic model, a carefully maintained 1964 Aston Martin DB5 that boasts both beauty and refined high performance. It is estimated at £325,000 to £375,000
Chris Routledge said:
“The DB5 is one of those rare cars which were identified as a true classic almost at the moment they appeared. This car in particular remains highly original and would be a wise and very enjoyable investment, and possibly the last chance to acquire one before its value continues to rise.”
Other important cars that will go under the hammer include a 1934 Bentley 3 1/2 Continental Tourer by Vanden Plas estimated at £160,000 to £180,000, a 1970 Alfa Romeo 13000 GTA Corsa that has been on display at the Milan Museo Delle Comunicazioni for three decades, estimated at £95,000 to £110,000, and a 1972 Maserati Ghibli SS that was part of the Shepley Collection and is only one of 8 right hand driver cars, estimated at £135,000 to £170,000.
Coys’ Spring Classics auction takes place at the Royal Horticultural Society, London, United Kingdom, on 11th March at 6.30pm.
