Meeting the challenges of the leisure sector

Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw’s extensive leisure sector experience and expertise ensures it is able to deliver performance doorset solutions that meet the specific needs of each project.

The company’s Plasform range is particularly popular with leisure sector clients because it has been developed to meet the hygiene, safety and operational demands of environments such as swimming pools, sports halls, gyms and spas.

The PVC encapsulation of the Plasform door provides protection against the daily challenges of leisure environments, in which fixtures are exposed to humidity, water and chlorine based disinfectants. Rounded postformed edges and the lack of visible lippings minimise the build-up of airborne particles, allowing easy cleaning and offering increased impact resistance.

The range includes Plasform WR which has fully sealed cores and glazing systems that offer enhanced water resistance making it ideal for swimming pool applications.  For even higher performance, Plasform Extended Performance provides all the benefits of the Plasform range with up to 90 minutes fire resistance and 38RwdB acoustic performance.

Group Marketing Manager, Shafiq Sharif said:

“We’ve worked with the leisure sector for a long time and understand the demands it places on doorsets. The Plasform range has been developed to cope with the severe duty use and hygiene requirements of such environments. Our expert staff work with specifiers to identify the best solutions for each situation, which we then manufacture in a quality-controlled factory and supply fully-formed to provide guaranteed certified performance once on site.”

A wide choice of facings and finishes also leaves scope for innovative design and enhanced performance. Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw’s Envision facing, for example, enables the intricate detail of high definition, photographic images to be incorporated into a factory assembled doorset. The image or design is digitally reverse painted and encapsulated behind 2mm of material, providing protection against wear.

Meanwhile its Hygieniform Eco door facing offers environmentally-friendly PVC-free protection against the spread of infection, which is a key concern in warm, damp environments. The anti-bacterial additive Hygienilac is integrated throughout the material thickness, continuing to combat infections even if the material is scratched.  Hygienilac kills 99.9% of bacteria including MRSA, Listeria, Clostridium Difficile and Salmonella, and has passed BS 6250 tests for severe usage. Its active ingredient has approvals from the Food and Drug Administration, Health & Safety Executive and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Leaderflush Shapland Laidlaw recently supplied Plasform performance doorsets to Ockenden Manor Spa in Cuckfield, West Sussex. Plasform was chosen because of its high performance in humid environments and finished with Hygienilac. Furthermore Envision door facings were used to display images of the surrounding forest.

General Manager Adam Smith said:
“One of the key attractions here is the beautiful countryside that surrounds us. Being able to bring that environment into the building in such a creative and contemporary way is really effective.”
