Customers Go Online to Choose their Ideal Domestic Garage Door

Potential domestic garage door customers are increasingly turning to the DHF's new consumer advice section on the DHF website www.dhfonline.org.uk to help them make the right choice of garage door product and installer.

On the site they can get expert guidance on types of garage door available, browse manufacturers' brochures and even locate their nearest DHF garage door installer.

In the few short months that the microsite has been live on the main DHF website, the number of visitors has been steadily increasing. Latest figures into the number of hits show that more than half of the visitors stay on the site, browsing round all the sections, an encouraging statistic considering that many websites have much higher "bounce rates" - in other words, visitors who immediately leave a website straight after arrival.

The most popular section on the DHF garage door microsite is the "find an installer" facility. This shows they have serious intent in changing their garage door and want to know which installation companies are local to them. In fact more than 25 per cent of site visitors checked out local installers, accessed information on garage door types and downloaded DHF member company brochures.

So why is the microsite proving a success? It is mainly because to potential customers, it is a "one stop shop" site containing all the information they need. The product selector facility enables them to understand all the types of garage door available - canopy, retractable, sectional overhead, roller shutter or side hinged - and see which suits them best.

They can then find out which companies supply garage doors and automatic power openers. All the garage door companies' brochures can be read online or downloaded. Finally, site visitors can then choose a local company to carry out the installation.

Being able to easily identify both a door supplier and installer who are members of the DHF gives customers peace of mind - they know they will benefit from a quality installation. All DHF members operate under a Code of Conduct and adhere to a set of Minimum Standards. Documentation about both these schemes is available on the main DHF website.

Replacing a domestic garage door is a major investment for the householder, but done properly it can add to the house value. By choosing a DHF manufacturer and installer the customer is assured the garage door will be secure, prove reliable in long term service, will be easy to use, provide pleasing aesthetics, be weatherproof and be totally safe in automatic operation. Can a non DHF member door supplier or installer make the same claims? Let the customer decide.
