The first award designed to honour excellence in the UK door and hardware industry has been presented to Tony Fitzpatrick.
His commitment to the door and hardware industry since he set up his own company in 1983 is recognised by the Door & Hardware Federation David Whitworth Award.
At the award presentation ceremony, David Whitworth said: “The DHF decided to set up an annual award scheme to recognise individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry - it’s fitting that Tony should receive the first award.
“His reputation for the commitment and support he gives the industry has been well earned. The industry has benefited greatly from his enthusiasm and dedication.”
He noted that Tony set up his hinged metal doorset company, Doors and Hardware Ltd, in 1983. It was in 1989 that Tony joined the DHF and he has been a leading figure within the DHF since, holding the post of DHF Metal Doorset Forum chairman for a number of years.
The David Whitworth Award was set up by the DHF in recognition of David’s significant contribution to the door and hardware industry, and to the DHF, which has spanned over 50 years. David is still involved in the DHF and is currently chairman of the Building Hardware Group.
The DHF represents all the key players in industrial and commercial doors and shutters, garage doors and architectural ironmongery. It has recently expanded to represent timber doorset manufacturers and suppliers and installers of powered gates. It has more than 200 members.
Its goals are to drive up quality and technical standards within the industry and prepare for the compulsory CE marking of construction products under the new Construction Products Regulation by July, 2013. The DHF said the setting up of the new award scheme recognised the increasing demand from specifiers and contractors for quality performance and adherence to high standards from companies in the door and hardware sector.
